We have a simple we're gonna make it work. No, you're doing a lot of scene Don't Kirk We heard a little bit before we start No, it wasn't you actually appreciate his point of view because I didn't think of it like that But did you before you hear Jerry's point of view? I didn't think of it like what? Like when he was like it wasn't that this has this this has this this country has this you're up and You're going to go ahead.
Go ahead. Go ahead. No quite you'll hear Jerry's point of view. He's opinion sitting putting aside a history of it That I don't know as much.
Oh, yeah, sorry. Are we gonna are we talking just like film quality or history or all of your history? I'll get my film in the things that we've researched. Yeah, my film quality of it.
Yeah, so some quality of it because I mean I know in a whole lot of other than Kirk actually went down actually happened When I first saw it let's start the top. How was the acting? I thought that was good. I heard there wasn't that much It's not that much because they don't really give you a main character, but I heard that even in the shot So I'm hardy there's no real man.
There's no one's Hard being in it. There's not a man. But Tom Hardy was just an American pilot. He was just a pilot.
Yeah, okay So the way they quit look before I say anything Chris for Nolan is too smart for his audience High-five what is left in center? Index And I saw this was shot who's you know Oh, she's very knowledgeable. I'm very big and so we walked out and he was like what the fuck? Because he was like dude nothing added up and I caught it about halfway through the film what was adding up?
I explained them and after explaining. I mean after explaining. So I think spoilers to you guys He was like wow. Holy shit.
I mean so much more sense. So the beginning of the film tries really hard to set the situation for you Okay, this guy's on the island. Nobody really is kind of sets on a group of two or three guys They're just trying to not designer because granted they're being bomb why'd you why Germany they have no chance or two is nothing The current culture one more to you. They have no chance.
They're just getting fucking bombed and just trying to get out of the island So they give you a setting the first setting is it tells you it tells you the mole one week There's a mole it says the mole one week and you're like okay Don't know what that is. Let's continue moves on to the next scene where these civilians are getting on boats because they want to go help Some in some way another and it says the sea The sea and that says one day then it turns to Tom Hardy as a pilot and says you know the pilots here one hour and that's all it gives you So for a second, okay, I got these things they fed me I don't really know what's happening yet The film develop and as you go different time lapse starts to happen where you see these guys on this island over night and day night and day And what's happening and every time Tom Hardy scenes kind of jump in where he's the pilot with a couple other pilots Basically just trying to protect the island from bombers You only ever see him during the day so in the confusion starts to set in why I've never seen Tom Hardy flight at night So it's kind of weird you start to slowly see that the time lapse that these these guys have been on the island for a whole week The boats were only set sail for one day Tom Hardy's only been in the air flying for one hour So you have to like separate the whole thing while you're watching it We talked about it after when everything took place So he set you know Nolan set this whole time lapse for you to view everything But it was too hard to catch during the film because there's no main character It's not a lot of dialogue and you weren't really sure what was happening because there was no like developers Why they were stuck on this island and until they explained it later So he's just too smart in his filmmaking for you to catch up It was really fucking weird, but after you realize it you like do that was so freaking good the way he presented to you It was almost like a pull fiction pull fiction war movie It was so mixed up and it was really fucking weird the time lapse But then once you realize what's happening It was really cool, and you can kind of understand what every character took place and it was really weird I can't keep saying weird. It's just that's what it was and then afterwards I watch like dude No, you're too good You're just too good for us We can't be your film without going what the fuck and then that makes you question Why did you like to not because you didn't understand it up front like that? But no, it was really it was good I mean besides that having to kind of pick apart pieces of puzzle it was good the acting without that was good No, okay, sure.
I mean I don't even think editing painting score. Yeah, I heard the score on Zimmer was just word for them I think I love the score was good because they give this the way it was explained was the way to score it was almost If the sound continues on in this and it sounds like it's getting the pitch of whatever score they were using was getting louder Not a letter where it's not just thing one one solid pitch. We got an argument for that coming And what it did to me is build the suspense oh To me Oh my god, anyways, yeah, cuz at one point in the film these guys are just sitting on the island waiting for these bombers to come towards an Envam They're waiting for their death literally yeah, they see the planes coming at them They're like guys are gonna bomb us and that's pretty much it and they don't have anyone run is it Harry Styles because it's one direction also Yes, no It was cool cuz they can hear these bombers coming you really hear the bombs drop the whistle Things are coming and then the music kind of plays with that and you're like dude Who's a bomb gonna hit welcome guys are gonna die they don't even give character names hardly the dudes are just dudes They're there no one cares who they are that's awesome. That is equally there's no No, I don't think it do calls another guy by the way It's a body on the ground the two cuz injured one guy looks up at the other guy goes It's gonna think and they're gonna say any dialogue they look they look each other and go this guy's injured So they pick him up and pretend like they're paramedics because they want to get on the next boat out And they don't even know each other they're just like dude.
Yeah, let's do that Let's just pick up this guy and try to get on this next boat out of here cuz this guy's hurt And it was just so cool. These characters don't give a show anything but trying to survive. So that was cool That was my mean aspect J boo as a film side You haven't seen the film have you not okay? So I remember before we start recording we started talking about like your opinion on the film and you've only seen the trailers So what was your initial thoughts of junkyard before the film actually came out my initial thoughts Were that of I felt like Great Britain was really Just to gain attention to as far as their war fighting aspect Clear you are a veteran of the United States are correct.
Yes, so my thinking was more in the sense of I'm watching this trailer of this film. I'm sitting like a boat with a bunch of men on it Which actually a period of your island because I was mistaken Yeah, the boat fairies away so all these men around islands and they're stranded So I felt like Great Britain was in the sense of we need something to show our great war fighting aspects because Like holy crap the US they have they have brave heart Great great even fear Drama dude, I don't think about this but it only has like Which is exactly Specifics and then the great Churchill who is profound beyond belief, but he's a man in the suit with a cigar Gary old man, he's playing with church all this year That's gonna happen Like Winston Churchill dude, which is really started Really with that because we need something to show the great Britain is Yes, yes, yeah, I mean no He's like every scene you were like I want to be this guy yeah with Dunkirk and the previous I was like I'm good. I can rather pick up my phone and go through BBS again Oh, it's like we don't cook you didn't want to be them because Britain sucked. I'm sorry Okay, I'm gonna go a little bit here to Britain held them off like a freaking champ They wouldn't send their own Okay, I'm sorry like as the history guy So no, I'm sorry Danny's a history guy.
I guess I'm just the whatever Still education World War two world war one is Jay's answer me is early colonial period Alexander great Jay is 100% worth the World Wars Okay, I think it's really hard because I have come to accept and believe the perspective that world war two is world war one Continued yeah, yeah, I'm like freaking the ambassador of what country was this I And we just continued by hatred within I mean they were not Yeah, yeah, it was different, but we're the ones continue so basically like what everyone ended Woodrow Wilson the US president at the time Was all about restoring Germany and doing everything that he could to try and get them back to a place Or he they were part of Europe again except the European nations had suffered so many incredible losses Right, but then Hitler came in try to create the Third Reich. Well, okay. He was young Jake this right before this is so literally I'm talking like literally a world where one ended and they say that of young men They basically most people would say because up until World War two the United States was an isolationist nation 100% Like hell yeah, hell yeah, like we believed United States manifest destiny. It's all about us It's only us we don't need to mess with the rest of the world if we do it's because we're further in our own power I know you and you would respect me this manifest as it was 100% about the Louisiana purchase in Metaphys was conquering more land due to the west Metaphys was connected to the Louisiana purchase and losing Clark exploring new land in territory It was exploring the lands and territories also meant spreading the western civilization Yes, but we're one half No World War one and we'll work to the US because their isolationists are we taking this amount?
No, he's just on P I better start that take over World War one and World War two the US came late in the game because they were isolationist and so World War one They say that the UK that Britain basically lost a generation like in world one in world one 100% Like they suffered so many casualties of young men that they lost an entire generation That's why they thought that world one more to it was back to back It was actually 30 years later, but it was back to them. Yeah, 100 They lost an entire generation of men definitely because they were so close and they were the one Nation that was able to fight back and then finally the US comes in when they realized like there is no other alternative all other hope They come in we turn the tides Fast forward Woodrow Wilson wants to restore Germany post World War one. He wants them even though they were the aggressors in the war He wants to restore them, but the other European nations had suffered so many losses that they took with their military They took oh, yeah, they wanted to make them pay exactly It was like you will pay yeah And so that opened the gates later on to Hitler because the German people were suffering and in poverty because they were suffering under the Consequences of world war one that were imposed upon Germany that finally Hitler steps in and he's like do you see what we're suffering? Do you see all these things we can be great again?
Let's make Germany great again? and So he learned he said on the depravity of the German nation because right because they were suppressed because what happened in the world They were suppressed. Yeah, they were 100% which are Wilson at the end of the day which was right History creates them right exactly how they have had they have accepted because he wanted to help the German nation He wanted to restore them exactly and they store them to the rightful place and how they have been restored But it he was he was overturned at the what was it? No, it wasn't true of Marseille.
Yeah, exactly she did Marseille and So now here we are world where two sparks and again the United States is like hey We're an isolationist nation. We got the Pacific and the Atlantic insulating us from this war We're just gonna do our own thing. That's okay. Harbor happens and then it's God.
Yeah, and then it's like okay We better jump into this but the whole time Britain was taking the brunt Britain was gone door and the No, that's true. Who was that we got? Well because I was out of time because he was a thing Is that they is that you are talking fine world or one? Well, what's he?
Well? I know he was part of the British What is the infantry was he I don't know? I don't know. I think he was just like a troop I don't know that he had some high rain.
Oh, dude, that's awesome Listeners go back and re-watch the Lord of the Rings and look at the comparisons between world of one and world what you and how the depravity of Germany Influences the story of Lord of the Rings. That's what they kind of say was that he wrote he wrote the rings dude I'll say this is not so far Right, so basically what I from what I've seen in Raj was that according to your Tolkien In his allegory was that Gondor was represented by Britain Rohan was represented by the United States really? Yeah, and so I was a wrong reinforced guard right so you think about it I like those times when it's like you know so Gondor is like on its brink and all of a sudden here comes a writer's of Rohan And so it's kind of like that was this thing was that's why I sort of transcends dude. It's free I just my I haven't huge Yeah, it's beautiful.
It's amazing. Oh god, but and so anyways, there's a place where that's where J.R. Tolkien's Interpretation fell his allegory with Lord of the Rings and there's a place in my mind of history where we can't Let's just be real the movie capital of the world is Hollywood to this day And argument's sake right? Volley would yeah, but actually influence on the world.
Yeah, like my wife is all about like she loves so many volley I I'm I'm gonna choose so many bollywood movies because of my wife with this day and so because of that like yes, Bollywood is huge But historically speaking and and still to the state who's like the biggest is Hollywood and of course the United States We're gonna make movies where the United States looks awesome, and so we make movies about our own And so there's a place where Trying to wrap it up. Okay, so there's a place where like undoubtedly there's history We'll tell a million stories of how the United States swept in and save the world But the truth is we can't we can't take credit for what lives died for yeah, we can't ignore the facts that had not been for Britain Holding the front line until the United States finally said okay things just got real. We're gonna step in The world would have been lost. Yeah, and so when I look at Dunkirk I think here's a British director like undoubtedly the highest profile British director of all of us Possibly arguably arguably of all time says I want to make a movie finally that just kind of showcases And here's the thing everything that I've seen and read about it isn't saying like Britain hell yeah It's more like Britain here.
It's more like chaos I mean the cult instead earlier the cult instead earlier. It's not like this dude's the hero and we're gonna censure it around this hero It's not like every man and the chaos and I think pray for Ryan did this really well I think better brothers did this really well I think this movie this it's like the chaos of of D-Day the chaos of those beaches and Dunkirk taking that step further. Yeah, it's uncurr literally almost a staple of the movie is us the Britain escaping and surviving with that Made Man was their victory. Oh, yeah, that was a good job.
They survived that was a victory We won we won yeah men going back as a son going back as father I mean they made it back when they made it back people were still congratulating. They're like a good job you guys got out as History is concerned. Yes, like there's merit to it I do see what Jared is saying is like hey, they need this Greg Britain didn't need this. You know, Italy has the you know the gladiator It's oh, yeah, yeah I'll see him in the fight that you know Italy that gone America has you know the Patriots Ireland has the Breithat English Yes, yeah Right, okay, so going forward That's what you thought of it like England England you know what there's no other director alive today that can execute this in mainstream Hollywood that can make it seem as Pivotal and as character driven and as Interrupt to people as Chris from only right.
What's the thing shot on is it? Yeah, 70 millimeter film Yeah, dude. That's shit is like insane So certain things that I would say that need to be seen in like frickin full glory I'm acts. Oh, yeah, like okay, and so this is kind of silly because everyone knows my history is I love Tom Cruise Mission impossible scene that no, okay, come on dude.
I've seen better That are my brain is failing So for the The scene where Tom Cruise is like on the top of that like which mission possible one two three when he's about to swing No, no, no, no, it's not just protocol. Isn't it? Oh, no a rogue nation rogue Rose quadrant swagger run whatever whatever The mission possible reboot where he's on top of that like skyscraper and he's doing his thing and he's like running down the building Dubai, yeah, it's about a swan issue. No, no, that's um, I think that is goes for a call It's what's what he's with Jeremy Renner.
Yeah, yeah exactly Anyways, so that's one of those moments was like seeing that in iMacs is like oh You capture the scale of like being on top of the world like the world at the time the world is tallest actually wait and sensuate what you're Seeing right exactly. That's the whole point of the thing exactly in the same way that 70 millimeter film There's only shot for the sake of being able to see the glory of what's being captured Yeah, so to me is like if you could see it in that kind of resolution and that kind of like screen size That's what's up. Yeah, I'm sorry. I mean Christopher Nolan.
He's proven himself between follow and Batman begins the dark knight dark knight rise in section Prestige momentum. He's proven himself So he wanted to do an ode to his country and I think he did a beautiful job like Jared said like Britain needed this like we whole have our own story Britain need this in I see that 100% My my whole thing was that I've heard a lot of people multiple people talk about the score and how it was almost annoying To a point of how this sense that Colton was saying that like an intensity that was a crescendo that was building from nothing to something But I saw something and I sent it to Jason about three weeks ago And I thought it was absolutely amazing that in Hans Zimmer he created something in the score that's called the shepherd's tone Yeah, and the Shepherd's tone is something that is constantly Crescendoing but at the same exact time Deshonding I don't know like it's going down. It's an infinite amount of sound it sounds like it's missing Or this is not like basically basically the best The best description that I saw of it that that give you a visualize to like understand what's happening is like the barbershop pole Oh, oh, oh, the bar shop. Oh, it looks like it's like continually spiraling But it's not really and the reason why that was so good is because it's played during these scenes Where like I said the planes are approaching bombs are coming and you're watching these dudes thinking I don't know what to do and then you're going to get the interview seat because usually right things happen Yeah, the score right boom it happened, but the score isn't in so you're like, okay, right?
So it comes in a moment that like let's look at this people Okay, I look at and I make fun of him But I saw some behind the scenes of Harry Styles and the other people that were in the scene and he didn't treat Harry Styles or any other actor In a different way, but if you look at the score it feels like it's constantly crescendoing It feels like it's content tension of this violin stream that is coming higher and higher And you feel like it's coming higher But as you and I can only Amplify with the people that are on the beach that are thinking of like what's gonna happen next and it's constantly getting bigger And in your brain there are bombs are gonna hit but you always think it's gonna get worse and worse and worse and it's getting bigger and bigger and bigger But it doesn't and a lot of the battle is internal a lot of the battle is your own self realizing that these bombs are gonna hit But I need to get to that but I need to overcome who I am and I need to get to this point and it fills in To the story of the film of these actors and these film and these characters that need to overcome what is presented to them And the present is a beach that is being bombed and they need to live and then you fight for their wife And you're like, I don't know what is more I don't know what I need to do more but I feel this tension and sometimes attention is in turn sometimes this attention is thinking like you Overthink you over analyze things at times and this audio is in the background We Shenrichtown the audio literally starts before you even see a scene. It's a clock ticking Yeah, it literally starts before the movie actually starts and in the first scene you're just like oh wow Do a lot of guys just die and it's like you're literally and it's just going to die You must be a lot more die and you just don't know what's happening. It's crazy. Yeah, I mean this film in Nolan and himself is a Great homage to the Britain resilience that they did during World War one So cool.

So if anyone does want to jump on board of the engineering train right? I'm going to share and say hey, you know, they're gonna start rebranding They're trying to come out with a new we're called maybe a new season in the opinionary life before it was just kind of like Oh, it was our college days, but now it's okay. We're gonna we're gonna start treating all this more seriously We're still gonna have tons of fun. We're gonna have tons of comic books and music and we're gonna talk about all that stuff But it's gonna be a little bit more structured and we're really really really more we're really excited about you know The opportunities that are coming are coming forward.
So thank you Well again so much for your time and we're gonna go into now talking about our favorite war movies So hopefully you guys enjoy it all and I'll talk to you all later. Thank you again in years It's your favorite War movie I'm gonna go around the table and ask everyone stuff. Oh man. It's real quick and then each one can say like yeah I love it didn't love it.
X Y Z. That's just some stuff takes place during war. It's hard to consider a war movie I think but if I was too consider to war movie I guess as best as I could I really really like her locker Her locker was good. I've never seen her locker.
You're a shitty person. I feel that 100% the one special Because one part of the social forces that nobody ever touched exactly and you look at the part where it was like war I was like wow black guy down dudes just blang on each other shooting tons of these dropping like flies And this was like this guy's job was just be like hey man I need to diffuse his bombs and make sure that we don't die and he's gonna die It literally sacrifice one guy and it was his sole job and it was just cool Like the suffering this dude went through and then at the end of the film It's like he just goes right back to it. There's nothing ending for him. There's no heroic ending story this guy It's just I'm literally my sole purpose of this is just to diffuse bombs.
I'm not even part of a real war He's just here It's cool. I mean it was a really film and it deals in the mental aspect of it It was really awesome and Jim Renner is also super good. Yeah, fantastic I was I liked him a lot and I was like really really good break I was a breakout film necessarily because there's a few points for that Who you said Jim Renner? That's the one where I saw him really burst out in theory Oh, yeah, oh yeah, what's the space life?
Who's a avatar? Who's a big low? Yeah, and she beat out of his mouth. Dude 100% I love that cuz I'm not fan of Avatar No, I think like special effects of effects if you were like the guy like 10 years do that What was that?
What was the metal? Oh Unoptane I'm like what how horrible writing I need to create something as unopatanium like oh, it's the most Un obtainable substance in the world. Let's call it unopatanium. Yeah.
Oh my god So great writing right that is oh, but anyways Yeah, you won't be expecting a big action past million But more of this is what kind of thriller and it's just about this dudes kind of shitty life. What do you love doing it? I don't know. It's really good.
She but what was your thoughts like what's your favorite one be? They got hand I'd have to go definitely with black hot down though. I was a good one. That's very good It is definitely more the opposite of the hurt locker in the sense of action packed You see a different aspect of war fighting And I think that's why I enjoy so much because you see more of the loss of human life Throughout the process of it and what that entails and what the cost of it is in a similar atmosphere as well.
Exactly Similar atmosphere but two different parts of the war absolutely loving war. Yeah, I think that's why probably enjoy it So much a lot of good actors. Oh, yeah The first hour of the film but like seriously and wasn't Eric fun. Hey, you're bad I was not saying like air advance character was freaking crazy good.
That's a good That's really good and the thing is that like I know the military doesn't share it can reinforce this that they shave your head Right they shave your head you do this Psychological thing of instilling you like everyone is equal and I can't even remember right now because we're drinking in this 1257 in the morning Oh, I guess I can't even think of the date But they make you think like equal right like you're not better than the man next to you shave your head You you dress down you shower amongst everyone they make you equals and I look at this film and I can't even remember all the actors Like a line of bloom was in our time from time travel his life. Who's that? Yeah, here's no Eric Banner was that's it Eric Banner was in it. There was a multiple I can't even think of all of them Yeah, but because they depicted the story that America went through in the early 90s was beautiful It was a very star-stroke film, but you almost ignore the star so exactly you know you ignore You know it was super good.
I believe no man behind I think that's part of it because even Evan Gregor He was part of it. He was a desk. That's right desk. Yeah, he was behind the desk and then they said you're going in Yeah, he just anyone in yeah, yeah And this scene really was saved the helicopter crash the first one yeah, the whole purpose up Yeah, it was just it was a backup You were in your it's not a big deal.
That was dude. It was really a lot of like a lot of two-joking moments So yeah, very good stuff. Yeah, it was a freaking ain't a great fun show for some of those folks be quick to quick easy out And then the whole thing went to shit. Yeah, you're good Jason.
What was your favorite war film? I'm gonna cheat Okay, okay. I was cheat. Okay, so if I were to say like these guys both get out modern modern wars modern films So Take my I don't know what you can say If I were to just say strictly an actual movie This is so hard.
It is so hard But these guys already took two really good, you know friggin Oscar winning ones if I understand modern or film Survivor No, that was shooter I'm watching Watching Get shot and like dude that was like it because it was scored with my Explosion in the sky Tim Regan's is one of the stars watching him. I was just like no Tim Gives I don't think I can see that film now because I know that Tim Regan's is in it. Yeah Taylor Hish Hirsch whatever Tim Regan's is in it I know his Film academia is not up to snow, but then he went with to be a burgundy did this film But watching him with explosions in the sky in the background I don't know if I can handle it because I think it was my favorite characters Is everything right now? Yeah, it was everything combined It was like a little bit of the history of the actors in my heart plus the musical score plus the story itself of these dudes So I just like I saw it was rough rough This down through hell of like absolutely I can't you want to talk like just clinging clinging to survival That is yeah, I did the fair.
Yeah, I Like that was just a friggin intense movie. So I love that so many more We have to go around and we can go in Viber this isn't exactly a film in so many series about bandit brothers I'm going I mean Captain winter's yeah, dude. I can't you can't you can't that thing was just Good, dude me my favorite war movie like all of them get me in the fields Like I can't deny all get me in the field But my war film 100% is the patriot like I like I'm communication major in college, but I was minor in history but I'm I don't in my my I focused in on colonial period In freaking the scene where Mel Gibson we all have our male gifts and funny moments in life But in this film he picks up that flag and he runs its low motion towards the front line and he holds the line Like no nothing else and it's not this the whole like America is so great It's just the overcoming of man of fighting for what you believe in just that I don't care what you believe but just fighting for what you believe in it's just so beautiful And then this man that two of his sons have died already two of his sons have died and he's still fighting He's still can we be man and he needs an age can the man next to me be a spy can the man next to me be someone that Doesn't believe what I believe in but I'm still going to fight because their spy is all over and the American Revolution, but I love that movie. I'm a patriot Yeah, I'm a man is tops I love the patriot and even he's a ledger like me and Lord rest of soul But like freaking a no, but I feel like that to me the fact that he's gone is not much more right right like oh my goodness Like I look back at that film like he was such a good actor He just just that idea of like him air this girl in this little town but the person trying to she burned down in church Yeah, it's just very it gets you You Charlie Sheen back when he was a legit Yeah, he's intense man That's the thing that's a so just so crazy that you could point to any war be it Vietnam So much from the The guy who was actually part of Vietnam put so much of that it should actually happen.
