Episode 152. Are Miracles Possible?

In this episode, Amy and Tricia continue their apologetics series exploring the top reasons Christianity is true by examining the possibility, purpose, and discernment of miracles. They discuss why belief in miracles is foundational to Christianity, particularly because the faith depends upon the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The conversation contrasts biblical miracles with frauds, paranormal claims, psychosomatic experiences, providential events, and demonic counterfeits. Using the example of John of God, a Brazilian faith healer later exposed as a fraud, they emphasize the importance of discernment in evaluating miracle claims. They explain how biblical miracles reveal God's character, authenticate His messengers, confirm His truth, and never contradict Scripture. The discussion also addresses philosophical objections from David Hume, Charles Darwin, and naturalistic worldviews that reject miracles. Amy and Tricia argue that natural laws describe regular patterns in nature but do not eliminate the possibility of divine intervention. They further discuss how miracles appear throughout Scripture during key periods of revelation and consider whether miracles still occur today, particularly in places where the gospel is restricted. The episode concludes with practical advice for parents on teaching children how to distinguish between genuine miracles, providence, fraud, and cultural deceptions, including those amplified by AI-generated content.
