Episode 153: How Long

from Eat This Book! · host Michael Whitworth

Psalm 13 travels from the bottom of the well to the top of the mountain in six verses, and nothing in the circumstances changes along the way. In this episode, we listen as David asks "how long?" four times, each question widening the wound: God has forgotten him, God has hidden his face, his own thoughts will not stop spinning, and his enemy stands over him. Then he makes three blunt demands, still calling God "my God" even while he feels abandoned. And then, with no explanation, the psalm turns and he sings. We explore why the road to the song runs straight through the honest scream, why that little word "my" is faith at its strongest, and why the first evidence of God's answer is often a change in us rather than in our situation.
