Episode 156: The One Good You Cannot Lose
from Eat This Book! Hosted by Michael Whitworth
Psalm 16 asks a question underneath the list of things we are all afraid to lose: what is your good, singular? In this episode, David says he has no good apart from God, and then borrows the language of dividing up the promised land to explain why. His portion is not the richest valley but the God who made the ground everyone else is fighting over, which is the inheritance once reserved for the priestly tribe. We hear how God counsels him in the night, why keeping the Lord always in view leaves him unshaken, and how his confidence pushes right past the edge of the grave. Peter quoted these verses at Pentecost and pointed out that David's tomb was still occupied, so the psalm must reach ahead to the Holy One whose body never decayed and whose path of life runs straight through death.
