Episode 16 featuring Christina Miles

My name is Christina, I have been married to my sailor for 37 years. We have to young me and two silly little kittens who rule the house! I have worked in Special Education for 25 years now where I worked as a paraeducator and last year, I became an Assistive Technology Assistant. I work with iPad and other techie stuff. I have always been a creative person, so doing this switch was fairly easy for me.As a creative person, I see art in many different ways and forms. I always say that photography is my first love, and it really is. I have never gone anywhere without a camera. My photos have changed over the years which is the same as my creativity. About maybe 6 years ago, time flew so I am guessing at this.LOL, I started making these art dolls. I submitted them to an online auction and sold every single one of them. Then about 3 months after that, I was asked to make a custom doll, but I was to ask the doll what it wanted to be. So in other words, as I created the doll, I had to ask it..what color of hair do you want, what do you want to wear etc. That is when it dawned on me that the reality of making these dolls is that I am not the creator of them. They create themselves. I am just a tool. To ask it a question and to have it answered in your head is the strangest thing, but it was also amazing! This changed my thinking about life itself. So I started taking more classes online and have learned that mixed media is where my strengths are and just by asking the piece, what do you want...it changes everything! I have been published in 5 magazines, 1 painting magazine years ago, 3 Somerset Magazines and one Jewelry magazine in the past couple of years.
