Jeff Crane, student of the liberal arts, environmental historian, and higher education administrator for the past 12 years, hosts a wide range of guests whose experiences as students of the liberal arts have shaped their lives in school, as professionals, and in their lives outside of their careers. For episode 16, Cal Poly Humboldt's own Nicole Jean Hill joins the show to discuss her relationship with photography, her role as the chair of the Art+Film department at CPH, and her ongoing work archiving the photographs of Laura Webb Nichols. Nicole's photographs have been exhibited throughout the U.S., Europe, Canada and Australia. She has been an artist-in-residence at many locations across the United States and her book Encampment, Wyoming: Selections from the Lora Webb Nichols Archive 1899-1948 was published by FW Books, Amsterdam and shortlisted for the Aperture/Paris Photo Photo Book of the Year in 2021. She received an MFA, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Lora Webb Nichols: Photographs Made, Photographs Collected Curated by Nicole Jean Hill will open this Thursday, February 15 at the Reese Bullen Gallery on Cal Poly Humboldt Campus.
