Episode 168: Trucksploitation Month: 'Moonfire' (1970)/'Delta Space Mission' (1984)

from Adventures in Movies! · host Nathaniel Muir/Blake Heath

It seemed impossible to find a better Trucksploitation Movie than Truck Stop Women. Then, we heard about Moonfire. A former boxing champion, so much trucking jargon the script becomes incomprehensible, and of course, Nazis make it one of the most authentic trucker movies ever made. Keep in mind that authentic does not equate to good. Before we talk about one of the strangest Trucksploitation movies of all time, we talk about the new trailer for the latest David Cronenberg movie. Crimes of the Future looks like a return to body horror form for Cronenberg. We talk about whether this is a good decision and what it will mean for Brandon Cronenberg. It has been a while since we have talked about an animated film. This week we go all the way back to 1984 to visit a Romanian science fiction film. Delta Space Mission plays perfectly into one of our unintended themes for April. The movie is a straightforward space adventure that focuses on the animation. There is a lot to look at it, but does that mean it is a good movie?Moonfire is the definition of a Trucksploitation Movie. Made years before the CB craze somehow took America by storm, it is a behind the scenes look at the life of a trucker. Sunset trucking, casual and explicit racism, and a scene that Coca-Cola would steal a few years later are just part of this moving story of over the road trucking.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network.
