Episode 17: Jesus Walks on Water

from So, What About Us? · host Steven Clark, Travis Brown, Andy Jobson

Have you ever done exactly what God asked and ended up in the worst storm of your life? The disciples didn't row into that wind by accident. Jesus put them in the boat and sent them ahead, then watched from the mountain as they wore themselves out against the waves. In Mark 6:45-56 he finally comes to them in the dark, walking on the very sea that was beating them down, and the detail Mark gives is strange: he "meant to pass by them."Pastors Steven and Travis sit down with ruling elder Andy Jobson, to unpack why that phrase matters and how it ties back to Exodus 14:21-22, where God carved a road through the sea to rescue his people. That passing-by language isn't Jesus ignoring them. It's the same way God passed by Moses to show him his glory, and Mark wants us to see that the figure on the water is the Lord himself. Andy brings decades of teaching and a deep love for the church into the conversation as the guys press into a harder question: why do our hearts stay so hard, even right after we've seen God provide?
