Episode 17 - Laura's Story

In this episode, I’m joined by Laura from Ectopic Pregnancy Ireland.Laura shares her own experience of ectopic pregnancy, a journey that involved emergency surgery, heartbreaking loss, and the struggle with grief and mental health that followed, made even harder by the lack of information and support available to help her cope with the aftermath. She also speaks about the miscarriage she went through before welcoming her little boy, Tadhg, in 2024.Alongside her personal story, we talk about the important work she’s doing with Ectopic Pregnancy Ireland, from raising awareness to helping create a new patient information booklet with the Pregnancy Loss Research Group at UCC, which is now being shared in maternity hospitals across the country.Laura also speaks about the academic paper Stories of Loss, which she co-authored with a group of clinicians, researchers, and fellow advocates to ensure patient voices are included in medical spaces where they are so often missing.This conversation is about loss, resilience, and the power of turning pain into change, so that no one has to face ectopic pregnancy without the information and support they need.This episode is an honest and important listen, and I’m so grateful to Laura for sharing her story with us.💛 As always, if you’ve been impacted by any kind of pregnancy loss, please know you are not alone.
