Episode 170: Mendy Hicks Sues Everyone Who Covered Up Her Abuse

from The Speaking Out on Sex Abuse Podcast · host Jimmy and Clara Hinton

No child should ever be molested by an adult. Nor should their youth pastor be allowed to molest them, lie about it, and have his whole staff cover for him. Yet as a 13 year old girl this is exactly what happened to Mendy Hicks and others. When Mendy finally did tell at the age of 15 she was told that she was demon possessed, crazy, and was placed in a mental hospital. After she and another victim found out that their abuser was back in the pulpit, they decided enough was enough. They filed a lawsuit 3 years ago, naming their abuser, all the people who covered it up, the church, and the SBC as defendants. In this episode, Mendy tells her heartbreaking story but also shares some insight for church leaders and survivors of abuse.
