What's up everyone welcome back to the daily P fad this is episode 170 for Tuesday April 2nd 2019 It's 9 14 p.m. Here on the east coast and I don't know if you guys listened any of the other shows that I do I hope you that I hope that you do and Particularly the EMS talk. I've been just about every episode. I've done in 2019 Which I think has been six have been geared towards active shooter stuff and rescue task force and tactical EMS and tactical medicine and all that other stuff and again This is in direct response to all the active shooter stuff that has been plaguing our country here for the last several years and Kind of the reason why this is such a I don't even want to know that it's a passion for me because I truly wish we didn't have to do this I wish that we didn't have this problem in our country, but we do But I like all of you every time I see these horrific shootings occur on TV I sit back and say what can I what can I do to help this?
What can I do to prevent this? What can I do to mitigate this just what I want to do something? You know because when tragedies happen people get that calling that's that's what makes our country so resilient You know every time you see a big hurricane hit you always see you know Neighbor helping neighbor people in the community with chainsaws and and pick up trucks hauling garbage and debris And that's just it's one of the great things about our country And so that's what goes through my mind when those incidents happen, you know, so this is all that I know how to either get prepared or make this better if there is such a thing is to make our medical response be as best as it can and Make no mistake about it. I won't settle until it is deemed a world-class medical response And so to get there means a tremendous amount of training probably a tremendous amount Ssh, roxy daddy's podcasting a tremendous amount of money that has to get spent a tremendous amount of dedication and commitment on behalf of everybody involved with our organization And that's just what we have to do to to get to that level because I can't stop now doing it You know case in point tomorrow a couple of us are going to do some tactical EMS training with another neighboring EMS service and working with their police department It's a two-part class.
It's eight hours each day So that'll be tomorrow and then next Wednesday We'll actually get into the field into a tactical training location and you know Go ahead and exercise and do that stuff and then immediately following that next Wednesday I'll be driving right back to white oak because it'll be our next active shooter drill We did one back in February at a church We did one in December at a school and now next Wednesday We're gonna be doing one in a strip mall because I want to get our people acclimated to as many real-world Scenarios as we can and again This is this is all I know on how to how to help this situation is to just build up the medical response to be as best as it Can so just because you know you don't hear about this stuff on the news and you know These active shooter things that happen, you know They are low frequency events, but they are high impact events Meaning that you know when they do happen, you know, it makes national media and you know all the changes in gun law people come out And it's you know, it's it's a very high impact emotional event for everyone So that's that's kind of why we're doing this and trying to keep it very much on the front page of our daily operation And what we do it's why we also at the beginning of this current school year began our school safety patrols where we have the EMS go up With our police and walk through the schools and so there's just a tremendous amount of effort Just to make our community be as good as it can be if we are ever faced with this And so, you know, many of you probably that listen to this don't live in my community In fact, I know that because I can see the analytics not only all over the country But all over the world of where people are listening to this and you know down in Where was that other one New Zealand, Australia the most recent active shooter thing that just happened in that? That was in a mosque I think and it was just horrifically bad and so the bottom line is communities everywhere should be doing stuff And if you're wondering what your communities are doing to help, you know plan for mitigate prepare You know go ask your elected officials go ask your police go ask your locally I'm ask your fire departments What are you guys doing? You know how much training do you guys do because I know for me because I keep track of everything in a very detailed training logbook I know just this year so far in the first quarter of 2019 we've already done about 30 hours worth of combined classroom and field training and so that number may not seem like a lot But considering that these training sessions come in two three four-hour windows It's a lot 30 hours is a lot of training to do considering that you know I think a paramedic has to God I can't remember I think we used to do 18 hours of con ed a year to keep our paramedic license In tack but you know so you know when you put it in that context 30 hours Just in the first three months is a decent amount of training and like I said now as we start quarter two Oh my god this dog As we start quarter two this is you know gonna be even more training and you know We're just gonna dedicate this entire year to doing as much as we can to make it as good as we can so that if this ever Excuse me if this ever falls on our doorstep We'll be as ready as we can you know and I hope well I know that our community appreciates it because every time we post stuff on Facebook about it They're they're very kind with their words But seriously if wherever you're listening go to your local community folks and your public safety and find out exactly you know What they're doing you know and get that sense of I don't want to say relief But at least get a good sense that they're at least doing something instead of just sitting there saying it's not gonna happen here Because that's no longer a good mindset to have for this particular topic So anyways, I'm gonna leave it right there because I'm gonna start getting my gear ready for tomorrow 412 701 4 3 2 3 is the show calling number and again You can find all of my podcast shows at paulfalfalavaleedupodcast.com.
