Episode 170 - Popeye (1980)

Cooper and Nolan are setting sail for Sweethaven this week when they cover POPEYE! As if a live action movie based on a nautical cartoon from the mid-1900s wasn't a strange enough choice for 1980, Paramount Pictures decided to go two steps further by making it a musical and having Robert Altman direct. Throw in an overzealous production designer and rumors of heavy drug use on set and you've got the makings of a legendary Hollywood bomb. But does its curiosity factor make up for the sub-par songs, disturbing makeup effects, and barely comprehensible dialogue? You'll need a lot more than a treasure map to find the answer; this episode (featuring a beer from the Rouge River Brewing Company) packs more punch than a sailor full of spinach!
