Episode 176 - The Robe (1:29:30)

from Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective · host Actual Anarchy

We did "The Passion of the Christ" last year telling the story of the Crucifixion, this year is an appropriate continuation of that story as we get some of the periphery and aftermath as we talk about "The Robe" with the Anarcho-Christian. In this biblical epic, a drunk and disillusioned Roman, Marcellus Gallio (Richard Burton), wins Jesus' robe in a dice game after the crucifixion. Marcellus has never been a man of faith like his slave, Demetrius (Victor Mature), but when Demetrius escapes with the robe, Marcellus experiences disturbing visions and feels guilty for his actions. Convinced that destroying the robe will cure him, Marcellus sets out to find Demetrius -- and discovers his Christian faith along the way. There's a strong anti-state message against the tyrant Caligula at the end, for which the sentence is death. We're doing a back-to-back Richard Burton vs. Chuck Heston - battle royale as we do "Soylent Green" next week for Earf Day with Dr. Dennis Foster. Show notes: http://www.actualanarchy.com/176 Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.com Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests. SUBSCRIBE, RATE AND REVIEW ON APPLE PODCASTS (or iTUNES)
