A 2022 survey from digital wealth management company Personal Capital found that 74% of people don't believe they'll reach their own definition of a high net worth individual. A 2018 survey from YouGov exploring perceptions around how much money it takes to be considered rich or poor found that 56% of people thought earning $100,000 a year means you're rich. That same Personal Capital study placed the figure around $400,000. Median household income was $67,521 in 2020, a decrease of 2.9 percent from the 2019 median of $69,560. This is the first statistically significant decline in median household income since 2011. The real median earnings of all workers aged 15 and over with earnings decreased 1.2 percent between 2019 and 2020 from $42,065 to $41,535.
