Episode 18: Research Chat | "WAGs" experiences, Systematic Review, For Partners and Club Staff

from Pretty Psyched · host Dr. Phoebe W

This week Dr. Phoebe talks through her published research- a review of the existing academic literature about the experiences of romantic partners of professional athletes across different countries and sporting affiliations. The hope is that partners may feel some comfort in the reflection of their experiences in this research, being acknowledged and heard by academics in research. Also for sport club staff, this paper justifies the need for support to be catered for partners of professional athletes and can potentially spark ideas for what that support could look like. The number of commonalities drawn in this review show that “WAGs” experiences are more similar than different, regardless of sport or home country. Professionals could look to other leagues and sports for resources in how to best support athletes’ families, seeing that the academic research in this area is so sparse. Some personal stories and examples are also told throughout. See the link below to read more:https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/16138171.2025.2475659#abstract

The MADE SOUTH Podcast Christopher Thomas A podcast about mostly Southern things, and some non-Southern things too. Hosted by professional Southern gentleman Christopher Thomas of MADE SOUTH and occasionally co-hosted by his way-too-pretty-and-smart-for-him wife Kimberly. Nuggs Know Best Denise Pass, set, hit! From the makers of the Ted Talk the podcast, your hosts Circe and Whitney are returning to host an exciting new podcast! Pro and former D1 athletes will be visiting our podcast to tell about how to deal with stress and anxiety before games, what they do after games, talk about their all American teammates, most of them talk about being all Americans themselves, and how they became great. We will be hosting former D1 athlete Brittany Witt, pro beach volleyball player Taryn Cloth, and pretty much any volleyball legend you can think of! So, who's ready to get their head in the game? In Their Closet Elle Moore In Their Closet is about MOORE than a pretty face. As your host, Elle Moore, I speak with guest about couture careers, fashion, love and labels. More importantly, we discuss how we feel on the inside and how that is displayed on the outside. Sometimes that sounds like a superficial conversation about shoes and clothes. Other times, that's a dialogue about cutting and tattoos, and as controversial as kneeling or praying. Join the conversation as we go behind the seams for an in depth discourse about the fabric of our lives. Pretty Girls was a Trojan Horse (A Will Smith Tribute Album) Justice Flow This album is a tribute to one of my heroes, Will Smith. It pained me to see the world tear down a man who gave us decades of joy, inspiration and unforgettable art. When I saw the negative reviews of his last couple of songs, I realized the critics missed the bigger picture. After some careful thought, it hit me - his latest release, "Pretty Girls" wasn't a flop, it was a Trojan Horse. Every 'cringe' moment in the video was bait, every meme was a part of the plan, and the world fell for it. Through this project, I'm flipping the narrative, showing how Will is standing strong, still legendary, and still writing his own story
