Keith is also the only hockey expert Brian knows, so tonight we will be spending time discussing Team USA’s men’s and women’s hockey teams’ gold medal performances from this past week at the Milan Cortina Olympic Games, but also what goes on behind the scenes in becoming some of the greatest hockey players in the world. For the men, it was the first gold medal since the 1980 Lake Placid games.* Brian watched the third period and overtime on Sunday morning after returning from camp. Keith talks about where he was watching the final, a game that drew 26 million viewers on a Sunday morning!* How did Keith get interested in hockey growing up in Northeastern Pennsylvania?* We discuss his son Josh’s journey in hockey, from the youth level to Division II college, with a side-hustle as a hockey official.* Women’s Team: defeated Canada 2-1 in OT. Megan Keller scored the deciding overtime goal, while team captain Hilary Knight scored her record 15th career goal.* Men’s Team: defeated Canada 2-1 in OT to win its first gold in 46 years. Jack Hughes scored the winning goal, despite losing some teeth moments earlier in the game. Goalie Connor Hellyebuyck stopped 41 shots in the game, which was dominated by Canada.* Keith and his wife Amy have hosted a number of “billet” junior hockey players over the years. A drummer boy in the Union Army's 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery Regiment, he died on August 2, 1956, in Duluth, Minnesota, at age 106, marking the end of living memory of the Civil War, according to the Minnesota Historical Society.* On December 19, 1959, Walter Washington Williams (sometimes referred to as Walter G. Williams), reputed near the time of his death to be the last surviving veteran of the Confederate States Army, died in Houston, Texas.
