Dr. Austin O'Carroll is a GP in the inner city where he has spent his career caring for the homeless and providing services for addiction, along with all the daily tasks of a busy clinic. He spoke to us about how poverty and trauma affect your health and can decrease your life expectancy by 20 years.Growing up with a disability due to Thalidomide, a medication available to pregnant women in the 60's which caused birth defects, Austin was told he wouldn't be able for the physical demands of the hospital but he knew he wanted to help people and has done just that.
