Dr. Amna Shabbir, dual Board-Certified Physician in Geriatrics and Internal Medicine, is passionate about supporting early career physicians in discovering how to thrive in life after medical training, and our discussion in this episode has “light bulb” moments for physicians at any stage of their career. I love Amna’s use of the term “imposterism” vs. imposter syndrome, which facilitates normalizing a very common experience. Amna shares that when you’re feeling low, even asking for help is very exhausting, and how important it is to take that one step and seek out support; “It’s like somebody opened this dark place, and light came through!”She speaks to the value of carving out “white space,” how critical it is to allow time for reflection to think about what you really want; “when you’re launching your career you’re launching your life at the same time!”Amna talks about ways that established physicians can support their early career colleagues.
