Episode 19 | More Than Just Cancer | Bernard Mauricia, Oncology and Kids

From its conception, Oncology and Kids has been about creating safe spaces for kids affected by cancer to be kids. OAK provides numerous programs, starting with Camp Reach for the Sky in 1983, aimed at helping improve the quality of life of kids affected by cancer personally or through family members and showing kids that their lives can be about more than a diagnosis. As a non-profit, it is completely driven by volunteers and the donations of the community. Being a part of San Diego Gives really helped bring in new donors and contributors to the program who, now as important members of their community and network, will be able to become ambassadors for Oncology and Kids, introducing more San Diegans to their programs. As they are so rooted within the San Diego locale, growing their connection and impact within the area is of the utmost importance.Through their programs, they have always adapted to fill gaps where childhood cancer was having an impact on families and they continued to do so throughout the pandemic.
