Episode 191. Discerning what is of value (133)
from The Inner Room- Emotions in the Bible · host Sofia Fonseca
Paul reminds the people of Philippi of their identity in God as a holy people, ser apart. In PHIL 1:1-11, he says: to all the holy ones in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi,... grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” Then he gives a formula for prayer -give thanks to God at every remembrance of you, -praying always with joy in every prayer for all of you, ... confident of this, that the one who began a good work in us will continue to complete it He invites us “to discern what is of value, so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.” PS 111 let’s remember “How great are the works of the Lord!” As a departure point in our discernment process. In LK 14:1-6 we find Jesus On a sabbath dining at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there are observing him carefully. Jesus cures a man w palsy bending the rules of not working on the sabbath to open their eyes to God’s ways, leaving them in silence, hopefully discerning.
