Episode 192 - Joy Ride & the state of Comedy (w/the Duster)

from Talkin' TV

A rather necessary surprise. Dustin "The Duster" Mason joins Dom to talk about one of the most unexpected surprises of the year: an R-rated studio comedy that went to theaters and was hysterically funny. Despite not being as good as some of the gems we've gotten in the past, "Joy Ride" the directorial debut of Adele Lim, with a script by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong & Teresa Hsiao, sees four Asian American women journeying throughout China in search of one of their birth mothers, as the one girl, Audrey (Ashley Park) was adopted by white parents as an infant. The film delivers with a rock solid cast, a simple enough premise and enough laughs to keep people going for the brisk, tight 90 minutes. Dom & Dustin compare this to some of their favorite comedies of the past, why studios seem so afraid to touch comedy now, and what exactly the key is to bringing one of people's favorite genres of film back. All of this and more every week on the #talkintvpodcast
