A 1996 scene shows a boy bound to a chair next to a fire in the first scene of Fool Me Once. There are masked people surrounding him. One of them starts taking off their face covering. Following the introduction, Maya Stern, Michelle Keegan,  goes to Joe Burkett's, Richard Armitage, funeral with other people. Maya meets Joe at an elegant charity event in a flashback. Maya said she will return to base via plane in around eleven hours. Joe wishes to make the most of their time at that point. Maya then recalls their nuptials. She recalls the exact moment when Joe was shot and died. Maya swears she's fine when Shane Tessier checks on her later. She goes over to Detective Adel Akhtar's character, Sami Kierce.
