Alexandra Dean, founder of Adhere to Studios, shares her journey from fashion design student to launching her own sustainable outerwear brand. Raised in Vancouver, she studied fashion design at Kwantlen (now Wilson School of Design) and began her career with an internship at Lululemon, eventually working in menswear and women’s outerwear for eight years. Her passion for sustainability led her to creatively repurpose excess materials and focus on functional, stylish, lower-impact clothing. After freelancing and supporting other brands with supply chain development, she launched her own line to fill a gap in the outerwear market. She candidly discusses the challenges of running a solo product-based business—especially marketing, time management, and strategic planning—and reflects on the importance of team dynamics, authentic branding, and adapting to the fast-changing digital landscape. 🎧 In this episode, you’ll learn: How to start a sustainable fashion brand from industry experience Smart ways to repurpose leftover materials into sellable products The real challenges of running a solo business — and how to stay motivate
