Episode 2: Scaling The Skies - The 'Suede' Era

from Litter On The Breeze - A Suede Podcast · host Litter On The Breeze Productions

Litter On The Breeze returns with our first foray into an album and an era, and it just happens to be that of the debut LP 'Suede'! All 100,000 copies sold in its first week of it. Today we are joined by our first ever guest, and one who was fortunate enough to be there at the time (whilst I was still in the realms of 'No Limit', Lucy!  She was fortunate enough to be swept up in the whirlwind of SuedeMania at the time. We'll learn how she first came across the band, how she got on board, and the means by which the album was acquired on the very first day of release! After that we take a detour-strewn trip around the album itself, picking out some of our favourite and our least favourite moments. Show Notes:As a future guest on these shows has since gleefully informed me, the Mercury Music Prize came about as a wheeze on the part of Mercury Communications, a former 'rival' to British Telecom. Unless it was a side hustle, then it is indeed highly unlikely they ever made any "stereo gear". Yes, I thought they had something to do with Technics or the like! My Alba CD Player and I never liked award shows anyway...I claw back some goodwill here though: it was indeed Badly Drawn Boy who threw away the winner's cheque at the Mercury Music Prize bash. I was right! (That gag would have been funnier had 'You Were Right' been on the album in question...Maybe).  https://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/oct/31/gomez-ms-dynamite-m-people-mercury-prize-winningsTHAT 'Not The Nine OClock News' sketch. https://youtu.be/Xo6hdKsa6ls?si=Xqr9-_7g78PWANDIThe wonders of Zoom meant my microphone wasn't really picked up during the main bulk of the recording, so I had to rely on the trusty back-up. Perfectly audible, but if you notice a difference between the main show and the intro/outro, that'll be why!Audio Credits:'Animal Nitrate' (Live At The Brits 1993) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qt_OA3aBR_E&ab_channel=4KSuede-Lives%26Rare'So Young' (Later With Jools Holland 1993) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBzbGkZ4_6Y&ab_channel=SamBreak music... - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZNWIRJCQW4&ab_channel=CherFanClub'The Next Life' (Later With Jools Holland 1993) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfb7OzjOdaQ&ab_channel=SuedeHQSupport the showFind us on Bluesky - @litteronthebreezeFind us on Instagram - @litteronthebreeze1If you have a testimonial about the band you'd like us to read out, or an in-depth idea for a future show or know of/would like to be a future guest, find us on email at [email protected] the podcast by buying a coffee!:) buymeacoffee.com/litteronthebreezeShow intro: 'Suede - Trash, Animal Nitrate and Beautiful Ones live at Glastonbury Festival 2015'We now have a Supercast where you can hear regular bonus episodes, submit questions for Q + As, get a shout out on the main feed and suggest ideas for future content!
