Episode 20: Dustin Garneau

from 1544 Miles to Omaha · host Cal State Omaha

Conversation with Titan Alumnus and Major Leaguer Dustin Garneau. Garneau played at Cal State Fullerton for four years, from 2006 to 2009. Nicknamed Drago for his uncanny likeness to actor Dolph Lundgren who played Ivan Drago, the imposing Soviet Union boxer in the film Rocky 4, Garneau is currently with his fifth Major League Baseball club, the Houston Astros. A 19th round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies, it took Garneau nearly seven years to get the call up to the majors. During his career while at Fullerton and in professional baseball, Garneau has experienced numerous highs and lows. From being a part of three teams to advance to Omaha in his four years on campus, to the loss of Nick Adenhart and the near death of teammate Jon Wilhite, to being called up to the majors, to the loss of teammate Tyler Skaggs, to catching the combined no-hitter after Skaggs death, Garneau's career in baseball has taken some wild turns.
