Episode 20: How Can Disability Serve Your Purpose? - Interview with Deborah Vick

from Dream to Rise · host Cynthia Encinas-Concordia

Have you imagined yourself in a wheelchair trying to cross a busy intersection, negotiate a steep curb, trying to enter a building or some form of transportation, or attempting to enter a bathroom that fails to accommodate you?  How do you feel?  Sometimes helpless, frustrated, angry and sometimes, you would like to quit.  Beside from these and countless similar situations being inconvenient, they are very disempowering. They send the message that you’re not a worthy human being. People with intellectual disabilities also suffer similar types of discrimination on a daily basis. Their challenges are different, but they too are treated in ways that are very shaming and disempowering. Whether their disability is the result of a traumatic accident, a stroke, a neurodegenerative disease, a genetic condition present since birth, a debilitating medical condition that has developed, or some other cause, this should not stop you from moving forward to make a difference in the lives of other people who are in the same situation.   I am just amazed by Deborah Vick's life story who is currently has multiple disorders which are considered rare but took this path to help and serve others through her 3Ds (determination, dynamic, dialogue).  Discover her life story as an entrepreneur and rare disease advocate able to inspire and empower a lot of disabled brothers and sisters, nationwide, as well as globally.   According to her, each one is beautiful despite their challenges because we have something to contribute to the society.  Believe in yourself and keep trying!
