Episode 20: Learning Homeopathy Through Stories with Sunita Venchard

What if learning homeopathic remedies felt more like reading an adventure than studying a textbook? In this episode of the Homeopathy247 Podcast, Mary Greensmith speaks with homeopath and author Sunita Venchard about her novel Revive and the unusual idea behind it: bringing homeopathic remedies to life through fictional characters, kingdoms and storytelling. Sunita explains how creative writing helped her understand remedies more deeply and why stories may offer students and homeopathy enthusiasts another way to remember complex remedy pictures. Turning Remedies Into Characters The idea began while Sunita was studying homeopathy. One assignment asked students to imagine a day in the life of Nux vomica. Instead of simply memorising symptoms, Sunita had to imagine how the remedy might behave as a person. Another assignment involved finding fictional characters who resembled homeopathic remedy pictures. Sunita chose Miss Havisham from Great Expectations as an example of themes she associated with Natrum muriaticum. These experiences showed her how useful storytelling could be when you study homeopathy. A Fantasy World Inspired by Homeopathy Years later, those ideas developed into Revive. The story follows a young woman whose twin sister is seriously ill. She begins a quest to find a cure, meeting different characters and discovering clues along the way. The journey itself is designed as a metaphor for a homeopathic consultation. Sunita created kingdoms inspired by the plant, mineral and animal kingdoms used within homeopathic classification. Remedies Hidden Inside the Story Characters throughout the book are inspired by individual remedies. Queen Platina reflects characteristics traditionally associated with Platina, while Aurum becomes another important character within the mineral kingdom. The animal kingdom introduces groups inspired by spiders, dogs, wolves, lions and snakes. Sunita even incorporated specific rubrics and homeopathic materia medica characteristics into the personalities, experiences and behaviour of her characters. Learning Without Realising You're Studying One of the most interesting things about the book is that homeopathy is never directly mentioned. Someone with no knowledge of homeopathy can simply enjoy it as a fantasy adventure. For students and practitioners, however, the characters offer another way to recognise remedy themes and remember information that might otherwise feel difficult to retain. Making Homeopathy Memorable Mary and Sunita discuss how difficult it can be to remember a remedy when it exists only as information on a page. A character, story or visual image can give that information context. For Sunita, creative learning became another form of homeopathy education and helped deepen her own understanding while writing the novel.
