Episode #20: That was a Presidential Debate?!?

Before the debate began, I had a feeling of dread about even watching it.  My fear ended up being well-founded.  I lost 90 minutes of my life I cannot get back. I don't know who the winner of the debate was, but I sure know who lost--the American People. The thought that middle or high school students, college students, and other young adults would see the behavior of 'our leaders' and think that is acceptable, and what they saw on TV was a 'debate' is very sad and a little embarrassing. That thing America witnessed on September 29, 2020, was surely not classical rhetoric, and hardly can be recognized as a debate.  It serves better as a 'how not to' video on discussing topics, persuasion, listening skills, and common decency.Yes, it is politics, yes, it supposed to be intense, and positions should be fervently articulated.  However, we need to expect more, from both candidates, from both parties. This podcast discusses the debate, what is rhetoric, what debate is supposed to look like, and fallacies in reasoning.  It is helpful for all of us to understand this in a real-life context.
