Episode 20 - Transforming Ignorance

from Podcasting is Praxis · host Praxiscast

Content Warning: TERFs, Transphobia   In this episode, Natalie, Matt and James run David through a few aspects of the challenges and barriers that society - and some of the worst in it - puts up for people who aren't cisgender. They also explain the type of help that's actually available, and how it's woefully incapable of operating at anything close to the necessary capacity. One of the reasons we're keen to do these types of episodes - and there will be more down the line - is to confront our ignorance, listen to some people with a bit more knowledge, and engage with it. It's about trying to make ourselves more rounded people, and better allies to others. We hope that if you're in a similar position to David, you come out of this episode feeling more confident in your understanding of a subject you may know very little about: the struggles that trans people go through. Also in a first for this podcast, we talk Scottish Pol- no wait, don't go! James gives us a good rundown of how they see transphobia taking hold within the Scottish political establishment across a multitude of parties, a topic they will expand upon in more detail on another episode...
