Episode 204 - Fangs of New York

Once again, we've found two VERY similar films to talk about. This time we look at two black & white vampire movies set in New York City, with VERY big ideas, awesome cinematography and great music. We start off with 1995's The Addiction from director Abel Ferrara. It stars Lili Taylor as a graduate student who is attacked by a vampire and begins to turn. It presents vampirism as a parable for a number of things and goes into some very heady places at times. We follow that with 1994's Nadja from director Michael Almereyda and produced by David Lynch (who also turns in a small role as a morgue assistant). It stars the luminous Elina Lowensohn as the titular Nadja, a child of Dracula who must go to Brooklyn to see her estranged brother after the death of their father. It has a touch of quirkiness that really makes the whole film shine. We liked both and recommend them fully.
