In 2009, Ammon won the prestigious Tom Long Boat Award-which is given annually to the top Indigenous Athlete in Canada. Later in 2011, Ammon was arguably the top high school guard in Alberta and became a 4A high school boys basketball provincial champion with Western Canada High School in Calgary.
