Episode 21- How to Navigate disagreeing with your CI ft Will Nicholson

from PTCOFFEECAST · host The Movement

During this episode, Will discusses a common challenging situation that occurs during clinical placements. Disagreeing with your clinical instructor (CI) presents a unique dilemma because you are a young clinician who is eager to learn and become effective at helping others. Will has had this experience himself, and is sharing some of the strategies he used to maximize his experience. None of these strategies are intended to be perfect. However, we feel there are ways to learn from all experiences, and we have to power in ourselves to make sure that we do. We’ve been discussing what makes a good CI during our consolidation period at school, but we can’t control this as students. What you can control is your attitude, and your tenacity to learn as much as you can! As always, please get in touch with us! Let us know if these strategies are helpful for you preparing for placements, going through one right now, or helping a friend. We’d also love to know what you’ve done to maximize your learning in this situation. If you’re a CI, let us know what you’ve learned to improve as an instructor! Or if you’re going to be one in the future, get in touch with us and we can talk about some of the characteristics our classmates felt we important for being an effective CI.
