However, the race slipped away from the 23-year-old when his team opted not to pit during a caution with several laps remaining before the end of stage 2. Jimmie Johnson, didn't have the best car of the afternoon, but he improved enough as the race went on to be in contention when it mattered. Johnson passed Joey Logano with 18 laps remaining and was able to hold off the field for his first victory of the 2017 NASCAR season. Johnson has won four of the last six races at Texas and has now won a race in NASCAR's top series in 16 straight seasons.
