Episode 21 - Listen

Today we had planned to release an episode we recorded last weekend where we reminisced about toys of our youth. But, you can hear our musings on Barbie another time. This week, we have witnessed yet another murder of a black man, George Floyd, by police, we're still reeling from the death of Breonna Taylor, a young Kentucky woman and an EMT killed by police while in her own bed in her own home; we're still grappling with the white woman in Central Park, who called the police in an effort to intimidate Christian Cooper, a black man and avid birdwatcher who asked her to leash her dog.  And this week, an extremist group hanged our governor in effigy on the capitol grounds, in close proximity to his home. This morning, we've decided to take a detour from our planned episode and take this opportunity to listen to and lift up the voices of people of color.  So we hope you'll join us in listening to some amazing podcasts, most of which are by black women or highlight black women. Please visit our social media platforms for links to these podcasts, and we hope you'll also share podcasts that you're listening to that feature people of color. Also, it is worth mentioning that many Black people are afraid to wear masks because they feel that the potential risks of wearing a mask - namely being targeted as "dangerous" or "suspicious" and enduring the consequences of that label - are far greater than the risks of not wearing one.  Read that sentence again. Let it sink in. So we are also including this week a brief conversation we had about wearing mask.  TLDR: Wear the damn mask.
