On the one hand, as some of you might have noticed, I lost a bit of my writing mojo. Posts became much more infrequent than they had been in the past, and a space that used to be updated every single day for more than three years running could sometimes go two whole weeks without new written content. To this, all I can say is that I struggled to find the words sometimes. I write from the heart, and some nights in 2018, I found my heart very heavy. I plan to work on my whole approach in 2019, so hopefully this can be both the end of something and the beginning of something better. On the other hand, as you might NOT have noticed, I got a great bit of momentum behind me for the podcast! Every guest that dropped by this year brought the goods. Almost every movie we chose to talk about gave us a lot to dig into. We never took an unexpected break. TIFF delivered much more content than it has the past few years, and our September hiatus did exactly what I needed it to at a time when I needed it most. To this, I can only express my gratitude, to the people who help me make this show happen and to those who keep listening. So if I’m looking back at 2019 on this space, I’m seeing some lost opportunities and some work I’m really proud of. It’s not the greatest hand to be dealt, but one I will certainly play! As for the show at-hand, well get ready because I have something epic in-store. I gave the usual year-end format of two ladies and two gents a little bit of a shake-up this year, and the results were…exactly…what I was hoping for. Three of my favorite guests – three of the people who challenge me most in-conversation, and likewise in life. In bringing them all together at the same table, I had a feeling we’d be able to get more into the final episode than the typical “this was great, that was great” discussion. And lordy was I right… As usual, this year-end conversation is long – so pace yourself. But this time it’s lengthy for a reason as my guests detour more than once into some personal, powerful, and profound directions. 213 also brought about a first, as it marks the very first time a guest cries mid-discussion. Listen for it. So this is it; 2018 on this podcast and this space is done-for. 2019 lays before us with great uncertainty and great potential.
