Episode 214: Our Abuse Training Is All Wrong

Nobody in their right mind would lock themselves inside a burning building. The same should be true for active shooters. Nobody should willingly lock themselves inside a building with a shooter. Yet many outdated trainings teach people to do exactly that. Uvalde, TX is a case-in-point of everything gone wrong. Many innocent lives were lost because of inadequate training and a poor response by police. The same can be said about sexual abuse training. In many instances, inadequate and outdated training puts innocent people at very high risk. For example, churches are notorious for locking known abusers up in the same building as children and keeping their sex offender status hidden from church members. Then churches decry abuse.
