En stille sommerdag ved den finske kyst bliver brat afbrudt, da et ægtepar får øje på noget, der vugger i vandet ved en rusten skibsvrag. Det ligner først affald – men da de kommer tættere på, opdager de, at det er et lig.Kvinden i vandkanten har fået halsen skåret over, og spor i hendes blod viser, at hun først er blevet bedøvet. Men hvem er hun, og hvem ville slå en tilsyneladende almindelig kvinde ihjel på så brutal en måde?Efterforskningen starter næsten uden spor.
