Episode 22 (7/29/22): Revisiting Biggest Red Sox Trades, MLB Trade Deadline & Headlines, Ohtani & Soto Trade Rumors, Djokovic Dominates Wimbledon Again, & NFL News
In this episode, Joey begins by discussing what the Red Sox need to do at the MLB Trade Deadline on Tuesday. He lists all of the Red Sox’s expiring contracts and outlines why the Red Sox may need to tear it up and move J.D. Martinez and Nate Eovaldi, among others, if they do not plan on re-signing them after the season ends. Then, Joey revisits all of Chaim Bloom’s biggest trades (Mookie Betts to the Dodgers, Andrew Benintendi to the Royals, Michael Chavis to the Pirates, Hunter Renfroe to the Brewers), and decides whether or not the Sox were winners or losers in each of them. He questions Bloom’s decision to not re-sign Kyle Schwarber and his choice to not acquire a legitimate first baseman. After that, Joey touches on all of the key players on the trading block ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, which includes Nationals superstar Juan Soto, Nationals first baseman Josh Bell, and Orioles OF/1B Trey Mancini, among others. He explains why it is very unlikely that Los Angeles would trade two-way superstar and phenom Shohei Ohtani, despite the Angels listening to calls. Next, he breaks down how the A.L. East has performed over the last few weeks, along with what happened in the Subway Series, how the Oakland A’s swept of the Houston Astros, and why the Athletics need to do something about their abysmal attendance at the Oakland Coliseum over the past two seasons. Joey mentions what happened at Wimbledon a few weeks ago and talks about Novak Djokovic’s dominance as he won his fourth straight Wimbledon title and 21st grand slam title, just one behind Rafael Nadal. At the end, he transitions to happenings across the NFL and reacts to Kyler Murray’s extension with the Arizona Cardinals (and his independent study clause being revoked). He goes in depth on the numerous retirements across the league and provides updates on injuries to two rookie wide receivers, Justyn Ross and John Metchie III. Following that, he discusses Dee Ford’s release from the 49ers, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield’s training camp battle, Carlos Dunlap signing with the Chiefs, Julio Jones signing with the Buccaneers, and Davon Godchaux’s extension with the Patriots.
