Episode 22 — Leviticus 22: No Defect
from As It Is Written Hosted by Athena Vetterick
Leviticus 22, verse by verse — the defect law from the other side of the altar. The same word for blemish runs through the priest of chapter 21 and the animal of this chapter: nothing marred crosses the line, whether it serves or is served up. And the rules are practical, not fussy — no animal under eight days old, no mother and her young on the same day, a thanksgiving offering eaten the same day it is offered. Two threads run underneath it all: the Name, never profaned among the people who carry it, and the story — 'I am the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God.' Exegesis style: the text's own words first.
