Through United Way and the Council on Literacy, Nancy and Jose respectively have been giving back to the community for years. Both are extremely passionate about closing gaps in the community whether they relate to literacy, mental health, or other resources through their focus on improving and raising awareness for crisis areas in San Diego.Nancy and Jose also stressed the importance of literacy for people of all ages. Literacy skills are critical for even the youngest elementary-aged kids as the ability to read and communicate correlates directly with success in high school and beyond.There is always the need for more help from the community when it comes to the mission of non-profit organizations.
