In Episode#22 of the Mindful Life Podcast, I talk about addiction. The field of Alcohol and others drugs is an area that I have worked in on and off for a number of years and I also have a special interest and passion for this very tough work as there is a history of addiction in my family of origin. When we strip it back most of us are addicted to something, something that gives us instant pleasure, relief or we may use it to mask or numb our pain or even to silence our inner demons. But sometimes addictions and their associated behaviours can lead us away from our purpose, addictions can dominate our life and daily functioning and impact our interpersonal relationships. It can be a long hard road for anyone struggling with an addiction and a tough road also for their family and loved one. Its challenging work but important work. This episode shares some of my insights and experiences in this field of practice and how I do the work of working with this very difficult to reach client group. Judgments must be put aside and unconditional positive regard become your guiding principle, along with a determined never give up attitude and of course a sense of unwavering hope.  Stages of Change Model-Prochaska and DiClemente  Motivational Interviewing-William R Miller and Stephen Rollnick  If for any reason, you have found the content of todays podcast triggering or distressing in any way please consider accessing some professional support (Aust only);    **Telephone Counselling support    Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636  Lifeline 131114  **AOD Support  DrugInfo Line 1300 85 85 84  Family Drug Help 1300 660 068  You can find The Mindful Life Podcast on Facebook and Instagram under the handle Mindful Life Podcast. Mindful Gaming Dr. Jeffrey Swift Gaming can be one of the very worst activities for a person to do, or it can be one of the best. When a person plays video games intentionally, or mindfully, they can strengthen mental health, provide physical exercise, and build relationships and communities. Without that mindfulness, however, video games can suck the life out of grades, drive parents and children apart, and become a source of toxicity and stress in a young person’s life. The Mindful Gaming podcast aims to help gamers thoughtfully and intentionally engage with video games.
