Episode 223 - High-RIse

from In The Queue - Film Conversations with Andrew and Phil · host Andrew and Phil

Tom Hiddleston plays Laing, a physiologist who gets a brand-new apartment in the tower block of the well-to-do.  Everything one would need can be found in this high-rise. Everything that is...except sanity.  After making a few friends, Laing finds himself increasingly involved in debauchery and bizarre behavior.  When the power goes out to the entire complex, the residents devolve into savagery.  Ben Wheatley's 'High-Rise' is based on a novel by transgressive writer J.G. Ballard, and one gets the impression that the book affords more space to develop the themes as well as portray a coherent plot.
