I'm not leaving that in. No, I'm not leaving that in. I'm not leaving that in. That's really disgusting.
I was going to start it right there when I say I'm not going to leave that in. So people are like, dang, what are you saying? What were they saying? Welcome back to Talking Nonsense.
Nonsense. I got a note. No. No.
No. I'm here with Christopher. If you're new to this podcast, Talking Nonsense is a podcast where each episode is a different topic. Chris and I just give our two sets.
We talk our nonsense. Speaking of which, I was feeling pretty bad on myself the other day. I was driving. I was driving behind this one car in the fast lane.
They're going pretty slow. I'm just like, what the fuck? Dude, speed up or move over. Maybe you're just going too fast.
No, dude. First of all, don't be in the fast lane and go that slow. We talked about the story. Sorry podcast.
Don't listen to that episode. Yeah, at least popular one. So, eventually I pass them over and as I'm passing them, I look and see who's driving the car. This is why I'm out on myself because immediately as soon as I saw who's driving the car, I was like, oh, that explains a lot.
They were Asian. I was just like, Asian drivers, man. That stereotype, I was just like, damn, I'm racist. That is pretty racist.
Yeah. And so, would you say that stereotypes are being, or stereotyping people? Would you say that is racist or is it more of a point of observation? I mean, honestly, I was thinking about this the other day too because I was talking to my friend about it and I asked her, I'm like, what do you think about stereotypes?
And she was like, you mean racism? That is true. Like, I was thinking really highly. Are there any other stereotypes that's not like not dictated towards race?
Like what? So, if you're a gamer, like, generally. Oh, true. Okay, yeah, yeah.
But what comes to mind is like 30, 40 year old white male, probably fat. Why do they have to be white though? See, you're already putting a race on it. Oh, yeah, you're right.
I mean, we do live in North America. Well, yeah. America is a melting pot. So, yeah, a gamer, 30, 40 year old fat loser doesn't have to be white.
Yeah, that is a stereotype. That's not towards race. That's true. A lot of stereotypes that I do know are regarding race.
Yeah. So, in that sense, is it racist though or are they more like points of observation? Because I feel like when you say racism, it's in a derogatory way, obviously. Like, you're.
But do you think, like, if someone's saying like, oh, no, it's a stereotype. saying like oh no it's a stereotype then it's okay. I would say okay but I mean I think you can differentiate being racist and just making a point of observation right so you feel like stereotypes might be those points of observation yeah it's not necessarily racist yeah but when you start to apply that stereotype to every single person of that particular ethnicity like that situation with my driving yeah that person was Asian I was like yep Asian drivers that could be considered racist I think that was racist yeah yeah for sure so yeah thinking about that I guess you're right there are stereotypes like oh yeah every like a gamer like obviously straight up nerd loser's things at home all the time yeah and then I guess there's also there's stereotypes where it's like like jock like high school say yeah you're a jock you're early yeah or a goth kid like just because you wear lots of black or true you know and going back the whole gamer thing you know we automatically assumed that they had to be a guy like they're like they're all in girl gamers out there that's another stereotype to get our girl gamers out there yeah you know like shout out to all you girl gamers you're single yeah also if you play Call of Duty and on Xbox that doesn't make you a gamer that makes you an average human being if you play farm bill on Facebook on your phone that does not make you a gamer that makes you sac religious and you should stop listening at this point but now see are we creating stereotypes right there though saying that I mean they could carry time I think that's just you know setting a parameter that farm bill is not a video game okay but I mean like would you still consider them at least gamers though no no no you only game if you get it let's define that then what makes you a gamer what makes you a gamer is if you get a PC because PC master race over the first of all and if you're a console pleb that I mean that's passable but you're not as cool as a PC gamer that's for sure okay if you play on your phone just just don't just stop I mean I won't say it to your face because I'm up with you know but because we're in my room with this microphone where no one can see us we're gonna talk all the shit you want yeah so go back to stereotypes though would you say you're very simple stereotypical of yourself like like oh that's very very stereotypical of me that I did such a such thing yes and no yes because like one of the stereotypes that I know and grew up around was that Asians are very smart and not to my own horn but you know to to I'm pretty fucking smart I mean if that's what you believe yeah no I'm not smart at all but I mean they say Asians are good at math and I was I was great at math I still am if no okay now I'm just being really selfish or not as selfish really it is yeah but yeah so there's that and then there's a stereotype to that if you're Filipino whoops sorry I think that was me but there's a stereotype I guess not a stereotype so yeah so that's the thing observation is stereotype because like there's observations that a lot of Filipinos go into the field of like medical nursing doctor yeah nursing or something right something very high-end computer engineering but I'm not in that field at all yeah yeah so that's where I'm like that's where I break the stereotype you know like oh yeah Asian dude that's not in nursing or a nation dude that's not in engineering yeah I mean Asian dude that's lazy as fuck you know yeah but so I don't know did that answer your question I guess yeah so because kind of going off of that I do like breaking the mold a little bit like I kind of realized that early on like at least towards the end of high school when I was considering like you're like failing you're like fuck I'm not smart Asian yeah I was like oh man dishonor no like towards the end of high school like when you start going out to colleges and like trying to decide what's a major in like I definitely wanted to break the mold like I I kind of knew from a certain point like that nursing wouldn't I wouldn't be into it as much as our other cousins are yeah just because it's like I've always been told oh just be a nurse or not say that nurses are just that but it was always just be a nurse or just go into medical it pays your bills and like the more thought about it's like I don't want to I want to grind out a job for a paycheck like I want to like what I do yeah and I mean yeah maybe that's too much of an idealistic thing you know so I was a happy breaking the mold and like you know majoring in political science and everything like that yeah not to say that those who did pursue nursing and your Filipino we're not saying that that's a bad thing yeah you know that's fine like do you boo boo but it's like I wanted to be not Filipino so I didn't mean to control anything good job yeah it's a good field to be out there yeah it's a tough job but just to put it simply I'd rather be a main character than an extra you know like I wouldn't want to just be one of your own person yeah yeah like I want to be able to say I am me like I lived my life on my terms so do you do you feel like you kind of used stereotypes to shape who you are like because you're saying like you wanted to break the mold so I'm assuming you knew a bunch of stereotypes about your culture about yourself and you're like no I'm not gonna be that way so do you feel like you use that to shape who you are now yes and no like I'm growing up like you know you've heard it too is just get get into nursing get into medical field be an engineer and it's like after a while like growing up you're just like like do I really want to do that and then you start to see it like you see your older cousins or maybe like friends of in your like I guess ethnicity kind of going down that route and like but again there's nothing wrong with that you know it's it's a safe bet but it's just like I for whatever reason I've developed the sense of like I just I just didn't want to break I wanted to break a mold yeah and not say like I'm completely like a rebel and everything that I do there are some stereotypes I still follow like I'm very still family oriented which is a common thing amongst people you know or even Asian cultures and probably other cultures as well but like you know families sorry sorry cut you off again that's funny that you brought that up because when I think of stereotypes a lot of the times it's like sort of the negative stereotypes like oh yeah well other than agents are really good at that but I think it's their type yeah but like agents are bad drivers or Asians have small dicks you know like I think of the bad stuff yeah like the fact that you brought up like Asians are very family oriented like oh that's so true yeah like at least with Filipino I've seen that a lot to you amongst my other Filipino friends they're huge families and they are very family oriented yeah very tight yeah very tight that is definitely a stereotype which is obviously probably like amongst other cultures as well too yeah it's not just Filipino but yeah that's definitely a stereotype I think yeah so I've in that sense I've been very stereotypical that way about myself and I guess to answer your question do I do I use it to formulate who I am sort of I kind of used it this might sound racist or at least maybe negative in a way but I've only used stereotypes to form social circles in a way like I was never really like I like hip-hop you know I'm bum average like I'm pretty casual about it and so like in high school I didn't really hang out with all the hip-hop kids who I African American or like and I really hang out with like a Latino crowd even though I kind of people have always said I look Mexican for whatever reason you do honestly you look yeah and so but and like I was always in my last name doesn't help at all but so in that sense like I mean I've used stereotypes to kind of form social circles like you know most people would come they might see me think I'm Mexican and so like I would probably explain that not so and so forth that kind of thing yeah but I mean you had like I've seen your friends before yeah and they weren't all one race yeah I had a like wide ethnic range of friends Russian friend I did have a I think he's Ukrainian no one's Russian ones you Ukrainian though the one I came to your party was Russian Ukrainian Russian and then well his technically they were both the same age I don't know how it worked out but his nephew was went to our school to and he was Ukrainian I mean do I feel like there's a difference there honestly not really but that's racist that is racist because they're in fact that Russia like annexed Ukraine yeah yeah whatever anyway is for all you history buffs out there happened in the recent recent one here is okay moving on moving on well there's stereotypes are there that you know of so I feel like there's a there's like I think dating stereotypes okay I'll know I'll be dating stereotypes but I just just like go off on one is like blondes are dumb or blonde like blonde-haired women okay yeah there's stereotypes against both men and women yeah like there's like that whole like I guess gender stereotypes and I suppose like dating stereotypes if like one coming to mind like if a girl is wearing lots of make-up she might be like high maintenance oh yeah like I don't know if that's really a negative thing because I feel like a girl is high maintenance she does care about her appearance which I mean you know there's a high side is not a bad thing but if she's like too narcissistic that might be an issue yeah I was gonna just say like there's two sides I think to high maintenance like high maintenance isn't like yeah they take good care of themselves and they want to look really good yeah because they that's how they feel good yeah but there's a high maintenance whereas in like they expect you to do hell of shit yeah you know and like kind of care to them and it's like no yeah kind of like that and kind of going along with that I feel like if someone is high maintenance not just a female but even like guys like I guess the idea of overcompensating it it's like for what like what made you try so hard to cover cover whatever it is that you're trying to cover up so to speak I feel like it kind of goes down that route in terms of like being high maintenance or long as lines but that's not really our topic today so no have you ever so you've stereotypes people though oh yeah for sure like it's a driving story yeah so it's always been in a racial context well okay no not always but majority of them yeah others has been like gender or the whole like blondes are dumb not saying I thought every blonde was dumb but there have been times where you've made that observation yeah like there was a blunchick and she said something stupid I was like yeah blunch a dumb I mean I didn't think that automatically you know but I was just like oh that's funny there's that stereotype yeah and I see it you know and I think that's what it is to it's like stereotypes they can be racist but I think they're there for a reason though it's not like someone that's just made it up you know I was like how to tell a funny Asian suck at driving but it's probably because they've seen a lot of yeah who are bad drivers yeah which funny thing is apparently I don't know if it's true or not but it actually is a statistic that say Asians are actually the best drivers so stereotype busted that's a really big thing on our show you heard it here for some talking nonsense that stereotype has been busted like supposedly I don't know and so everything that was said on this podcast is fictitious no but no that's interesting well sorry repeat that question again because I only gave you like one example what was the question if you've ever stereotyped oh yeah so there's that and then I think there have been times where and this is like amongst my friends of different races like we will joke with each other about the stereotypes that we know about each culture there's a stereotype that Asians eat dogs or cats yeah that one that one kind of does bother me yeah so I mean there are some places that do do and they still happen to be Asian but I mean that I don't think just that one place should cause it for everyone else to be like your Asian you eat dog you know and I that's where I understand because again like I said I was talking to my friend about this the night and she she says she hates stereotypes she feels like there's no point to them or like if everyone likes certain thing doesn't mean it's for that particular group yeah like for example she's half white half Mexican and if she doesn't like spicy food people are like why don't you like spicy food your Mexican like you should like spicy food but she's like I don't like spicy food period so I get that part of it so like I said with me my friends you know they would make fun of me like oh how are you having for dinner you having dog ha ha ha and then actually like oh ha ha very funny what you have tacos because they're Mexican yeah it's like yes yeah but the time again but you know it's just like stuff like that so we will like joke around I've never used stereotypes to like judge somebody yeah like judge them let's say for example that driver right I mean gals like oh they're driving so cuz they're Asian yeah but honestly I didn't mean anything by I'm not gonna be like they fucking suck cuz they're Asian and they're bad drivers yeah that's a stereotype I'm just like make sense I feel like a lot of negative stereotypes too like can be taken out of context like in your story where you do say that it's like honestly you weren't with anyone it's not like you're imposing any of these ideas on to somebody else it was just like a mild inconvenience and you know it's just what it is but that being said though like have you ever been stereotyped and it's kind of like rubbed you the wrong way or like have you ever experienced something like that I don't think I have like from other people personally but within our family yeah oh yeah yeah well just like we talked about earlier the whole stereotype of how every Filipino should oh be an earner should ever when I told my parents that I wanted to take up because originally I wanted to do architecture so the engineering yeah and they were okay with that because you know so typically they're like yeah that's perfect for you because you know you're Asian you're good you'll be good at that right I make building toe we're not even Chinese I don't want to do architecture anymore I want to do filmmaking like my dad was upset he was really mad he was actually really against it at first really yeah he pretty much told me are you fucking kidding me like why was it like a heavy conversation it wasn't even really a conversation he was he was she told me he was disappointed in my choice he was like I don't think that's a good choice I don't know why you want to do that there's I don't see any future in that I was like wow okay just just because he felt like that's not what I guess it was not proper choice in what he experienced I guess it is like from his realm of knowledge I guess yeah so I was like okay so that sucked but eventually I you know turned it around and I proved to him oh shit hold on be right back and welcome back to talking nonsense yeah so we're sorry you're talking conversation with your dad you turned it around like you're eventually yeah eventually I proved to him that filmmaking is what I want to do and then I was good at it and he was like oh shit I guess you broke the stereotype never mind you don't have to be an engineer or whatever granted I haven't done anything within my field quite yet wait you're making steps there yeah I guess I'm steps and quotations I mean they're more they're more like crawling but you know not even crawling I haven't got out of bed yet so yeah so I'm sorry I'm curious about the conversation it was like was it like were you guys like yelling was it like no I was no yelling because first of all I'm very respectful of my dad and he's scary as fuck so soon he starts talking to Matt I just shut up and listen you're totally right sir yes sir yeah he was just he just felt it wasn't right and he was like I don't think that's a good choice you're not gonna get anywhere with that you're not thinking clearly and actually well I want to consider that stereotype but my when I was in college and I went you know you have to have financial well you don't have to have financial aid but if you're not rich you have to get financial aid so you're pretty much in financial aid but basically I like met with the financial aid counselor and we were going over my expenses and like how much aid I was getting how much schooling was gonna cause and everything and she pretty much told me like she saw the debt that I was gonna be in and she asked me like oh what's your major I told her filmmaking she said are you serious I was like yeah and she told me she's like have you gone into this with your eyes wide open like have you considered going to community college first because I don't think you're gonna be able to pay off your debt with that degree she pretty much told me that that was stupid to pick and then I was gonna make it and I should like change subjects whoa and I feel like for her in her mind maybe this probably not what it was but like maybe stereotypically she was thinking like filmmaking is not a good choice yeah you know like no one makes it supposedly filmmaking or it's like a hard chance yeah well I mean just elaborate on that because with what I do I do see like student loans and everything like that and a lot of things that I said paperwork for art for people who did like an art major or something did an art major and they did rack up a series dead yeah and a lot of it unfortunately like not not to be cold but they're gonna die with it yeah like they're not gonna pay it off yeah so I mean I think and what I do actually like when we do get those payments it goes back to fast center from like that that's how it's funded or partly that's how it's funded but anyway I think that's what she was coming from because I find that hard to believe or that might be a stereotype in it of itself like for counselors I'm kind of naive and I always think they have your best interest at heart but I guess on a negative side they could just be wanting to push you on to like a major that's more expensive but that'll have a return value for the the school yeah I guess I mean has I ever been like a job that you thought you couldn't do like let's say for example because you're like oh I'm not that type oh oh oh that's not me yeah so I'm not my stereotype technically or so aside from nursing I think though another job I do or couldn't do that you like probably thought like oh that'd be like a good job but then you realize wait I'm not that feel like you know maybe not yeah okay probably I would say like maybe working in the stock market like a stockbroker like managing a head so like why do you think it's because I'm not white that it's like honestly yeah honestly it's because I'm not white I feel like because I am Asian if I did do something like that more people would be more interested in working with me because of that stereotype rather than my ability to do my job and maybe that is okay with some Asians yeah but that bothers me like I would want to be known for my skill in what I do in my ability to produce quality work rather than the assumption oh because he is Asian and wears glasses he must know numbers right yeah and I guess that comes down to breaking the mold for me let's take a quick break real quick because I gotta go pick up my dog from his grooming so we'll be right back and we're back finally picked up my dog from the grooming and he looks great he does yeah took us a little while in the edit it's gonna seem like it only took a second but really that took like what 20 30 minutes or so yeah 20 or 30 minutes and we had some McDonald's sure make it sound like bad asses we did but we didn't pay for it so yeah he can make all his response or not but just before we signed off real quick we were talking I asked you a question of were there any jobs you felt like you didn't want to do because of a certain stereotype but I want to rephrase the question I want to ask you was there anything like any certain activity or club or job whatever it is that you didn't take on just because you thought I can't do that because I'm Asian or you know like stereotypes wise I guess at least job wise this is gonna be an off-the-cuff one I probably wouldn't go into the like pornography industry as an actor just the whole like you know like small like small penis thing like not saying I have a small penis but like that you're sounding like you're saying that's so big whoops it out oh wow it's so big no no the reason why I would say that though is just because it's like it's intimidating you know like that's super like intimate at least like that aspect of myself but and then just knowing that that stereotype out there you know it's like is it a joke you don't want to be living proof basically I can look up to the scrutiny like I really I can live it up but is it like any activity but activity wise I guess what I wouldn't do is maybe join like the computer club why because like me being again me being me like I've always wanted to break the mold oh you don't want to be that yeah oh he's in computer not sit and like it that's kind of one of the stereotypes that bothers me is that oh because I am Asian I must be great with computers I mean granted I know a fair amount of like computers you know but like one instance in high school one of my teachers was asking like there's like he was that they're having an issue with their computer and there are other Asian kids in the class but they were like the like kind of like hyphen Asian kids like the like hip-hop Asian kids you know the dumb ones yeah like that's a stereotype yeah that is a stereotype but anyway I was only dirty looking Asian one in that classroom like oh Adele knows and I was like I guess and then I mean I was able to resolve the issue which they make me like I'm glad that I did that but I was like damn you also like people right now like right yeah what about you is there any job you wouldn't do because of a stereotype or that turns you away because of a stereotype well I guess same thing it's not really because of the stereotype well I guess it kind of damn should drink water before I talk to you it is kind of because of the stereotype but the whole nursing thing like I don't want to go to nursing just because I'm Filipino like for sure if I were to go to nursing is because I wanted to not because I'm Filipino so that's something I didn't go into because of that like I was literally thinking like I'm not gonna go to nursing because I'm Filipino I was totally against that and then activity wise I in high school I did try out for basketball even though you know you don't really typically see so I see you try to hold in your lap you do sorry I just don't see you ever I like I played basketball I mean I didn't play for the school but I played basketball I like basketball I did but then I tried out obviously didn't get onto the team took it though but I tried out but I guess that shit's just because I wasn't I didn't feel like I was good enough not because I was Asian but you don't typically see too many Asians going out for basketball teams at least then for me at least I don't know yeah yeah yeah now there's a lot more I think yeah a lot more diversity in other things now yeah there's a lot of diversity now versus I guess back then we're old bro we're old that old I know you have any other questions for me yeah so how much do you make I'm both my list here I don't say that my candy dandy note but thank you blues for sponsoring us if you can't do so kind of going back to like don't come here mouth oh sorry my my going back to like Sarah's actually everything like that do you think about like who would stereotype the most if it's like either a certain type of group or maybe in ethnicity oh race do I think stereotypes the most it doesn't necessarily have to be race what do you think I mean race times the most bro tell me what race what race yeah the white race yeah the white race yeah I know I know I know I know I know I know but you were doing it wrong I was supposed to ask you that and start asking me that I was trying to fit around you're supposed to be the one that was your joke all right let's come back in I don't know what are you going out that whole fire okay yeah your whole pulling up the zone I need to ask you a question no I was supposed to ask you the question oh ask me the question yeah okay so wait I just leave this whole part in there let's just get to the joke so the joke was I was supposed to ask Chris here what race do you think stereotypes the most Chris Chris that's not a race Chris and then he says oh my bad what God oh we're talking about this in the car guys that's why this episode's gonna get stricken down no it's whatever I don't give up but yeah you know you think cops say attack the most I mean honestly like not to get too heavy to politics but I feel like there are a lot of accusations now maybe there was a lot back then maybe we just didn't hear about it because we were kids or it's not being aired on the news I mean there was a well they were racist a lot back then yeah and so I mean it's only getting called out a lot more so I mean I guess from a number standpoint if a thousand people are saying like you know X amount of cops are being like a racially into the plate pro-fying people are being stereotypical I mean there's gotta be some truth to that just then like I guess from a numbers aspect alone but then again that just kind of makes me feel like I might just that much of a cynic that like maybe you're stereotyping them yeah or maybe I'm stereotyping them right you know maybe I'm just maybe I'm lying there to be something wrong yeah I think for me if we were to ask that question again about which race to tell you clearly which race to those those this Filipino's dude yeah we're very racist and stereotypical yeah very very and I will admit that because I do it quite often sometimes yeah I look at certain people doing a certain day like up that makes sense because it's there your time I do that I don't mean it out of like harmful faith that's just you know that's just me you know I'm not gonna say like I'm not gonna hang out with them because of that but I don't know what else you got you texting right now during this podcast this will see you texting right now he is on his phone folks not even paying attention you know I was a while no you were it's not texting her retight your girlfriend no your boyfriend yes stop they're driving me no sorry I was in my god no I did go ahead oh my turn okay so you know I'm coming your mouth to heart we've talked about stereotypes and like we've really dealt heavily into like racism at least like in connecting those two and we've kind of like delved into a little bit about stereotypes you know other things like being a gamer like gender stereotypes and that sort of thing so like when you do think stereotypes what it was honestly just like racism when I like came to you about this topic is that what came to mind yeah like a touching the game honestly when I was trying to think of stereotypes that I know it's all dealing with race so like I didn't think about the whole game or thing or like a gender yeah or gender but now kind of think of it stereotypes could literally be anything it doesn't have to be about another culture or person yeah we could stereotype places like we were driving earlier and I was again del taco and I was just thinking to myself like never gonna eat there because I hear del tacos not that great yeah and I feel like that's stereotyping you know like I think del tacos like the cheaper cheaper version of toggle yeah like a knockoff talk about I can't think that yeah like see again stereotyping retail stores you think Walmart's like crappy well I know Walmart's because I work at their empirical evidence for that say see so that's the thing too it's like where do these stereotypes come from yeah that's a point yeah are we making it up is it like the telephone game like one person just says something and it starts getting spread around or is it like we say something and then that person who hears it it's like I never thought of it that way and then once they start seeing it they like correlate that statement with that kind of you know first center of that type of group and that behavior so it how would you like differentiate stereotype and rate like or being stereotypical or stereotyping people versus like being racist well for one don't stereotype people off the race mark that off my list next no but come on like honestly like I don't know I don't think because like you said when when you when I came to you with this topic all it came to you was like grace yeah that's all I know I'm not that's not all that I know but that's what I grew up on yeah you know and I just think that maybe people just saw a certain type of race doing a certain thing and like oh maybe they're doing it because of that race and it becomes a stereotype but I think if you could just look at it as in we don't have to say maybe there shouldn't be any stereotypes you know you can't really make stereotypes either a really good thing or a bad thing or maybe you can't I don't know we'll talk about that later but like for example because I was just trying to think like you can't say all Asian drivers are bad right but then we're gonna say when you see a bad driver you're gonna say like oh they're a bad driver because he's a man or they're bad driver because he's a girl like there's no way to make it he's a bad driver because he's a bad driver some you're gonna you can say he's a bad driver because he's a bad driver I know but what I'm saying though like okay stay out of time when people do make those things I think that's what they think of is like well it's because of yes that's reason or that reason yeah they're not gonna see it as well he just he just sucks yeah he's just simply a driver like someone people try to make a reasoning I would be like there has to be a reason why he sucks yeah because he's Asian or it's because he's a man or it's because he's not he's younger than 21 or something you know like people stereotype things for reason because I think it's just their way of explaining certain things yeah that sort of makes sense like how like I guess religion before was used as a way to explain certain things that people just can't understand back then either through science or just like a lack of academic knowledge possibly yeah so I think stereotypes come from maybe like knowledge like you just need to do you think there are positive stereotypes you know earlier in our podcast I talked about like who you know an Asian culture is it being predominantly family oriented like it's very much yeah sure I guess they're like there's a stereotypes I guess about people who are mama boys or what's the term mama's boy mama's boy yeah there you go what are you saying mama boys mama's boys right they're saying like they're hella nice or like they're very polite I would say like very very but I think it's a stereotype like where you're you're more reserved in the sense of but they know how to treat a woman yeah yeah say mama's boys know how to treat a woman yeah that's what it is like you can be a mom's boy and people make fun of you for it I think that's a dating stereotype yeah but you treat women well because of that have you ever stopped like or lost interest in someone because they were being stereotypical what do you mean let's say you met a girl who happened to be an ABG what an ABG an Asian baby girl okay and I mean she kind of looked like it was sort of acting like that but you know maybe there are other qualities there that you just didn't get it see because she was kind of being a stereotype boy BG I can't like have you ever lost interest in someone like that or like kind of in that context I think for myself if I saw them already as an ABG and this is just my own personal opinion I'm not saying all ABGs are bad but I probably would have never never saw it like gone to that point yeah I'm gonna do that girl that's not my type do you have a type stereotype when it comes to dating I'm not my preference yeah yeah you know like do you do you feel like you use that then to I already asked you that to shape your life and I guess dating is part of your life so yeah you do yeah I do like I think I like was a POF or even yeah is a POF or that you can choose like the ethnicity you're interested in yeah I think all dating apps kind of do that oh do that's often I use dating apps now but yeah so I mean you get some dads inside you yeah yeah okay well do you feel like I'm gonna ask you I don't know you only has a notes bro or you want the notes so is there anyone that comes in mind that has broken the mold or I kind of know that made you like wow like he's really out of the stereotype he's very unservice people were she um that was maybe it's something that you know where somebody respect possibly just the way you're going to see like you're trying to make you say a certain someone oh no you know maybe someone who was just here a few minutes ago who said across from you wearing a hair anyone that broke the stereotype for me or anyone that made you think I was like damn because he broke the mold like I want to do that to you oh or I mean or even to any degree of that really oh how about you um that broke the mold I guess yeah one that comes to mind is uh this might be a way one to not really into sports or anything like that but I would say like many pack out oh yeah that's a good one just cuz it's like I mean prior to him like there were really no Asian boxers or even specifically Filipinos yeah or there were no really like and who were like headline fights yeah exactly they're probably where but they weren't like yeah it wasn't like on HBO paper view for the longest I mean this might be a racist statement but like growing up like watching like boxing and stuff cuz like UFC wasn't really super big back then it was really just like white like European North American like Latino and then like African American athletes like you didn't really see too many Asians out there so like when a man you back out started headlining fights and people like wanted to go see him not just cuz he was Filipino and it was just like oh like he was Asian in the ring well he was like legitimately good in his craft going along goes on to see like recently crazy rich Asians hitting the box office yeah like that was cool like seeing kind of a Hollywood was it a Hollywood movie yeah yeah well I mean just like other Hollywood actors in it but I wasn't sure like just because there were if it came out from Asia or whatever but what I mean is like it was cool seeing like an Asian cast like that you know so like it's cool to see like Asian culture kind of like popping up in more of a prevalent way or in a more not prevalent but in a more like mainstream way like not to like sound like narcissistic or anything like that but that was kind of cool saying that even like Kpop to like music wise like Kpop like taking over the world hell people of Kpop yeah did I go on for too longer no I mean you took a lot of breaks and have to cut a lot oh sorry it's cool you're thinking it's fine but that being said though like so I'm assuming you've been stereotyped before like we've gone into this early in podcast are there any ones that came to mind that really did bother you like that was just too much yeah you asked me that oh yeah you asked me that exact question sorry that's cool what you mean you didn't answer that yeah actually I do have one okay so and this is what kind of I think this is what really made me want to break them a little bit was I had a dog in high school new new and new new got out one day and he just barked at the neighbor like they called police whatever wow just keep in mind guys new news of a fucking Chihuahua yeah so the fact that these people called police on a little Chihuahua said a lot about that yeah I said I think yeah well no I don't think so I don't know who called the police but the police did show up okay well specifically like animal control okay yeah yeah so long search or like we had a pay ticket obviously you got to go for that or whatever really for barking because you knew do anything no he so he got out like through the front door right so he's out on the street yeah yeah and then we like we ran him back in but well that's why yeah so we we had to go to court to pay the ticket or the fine or some shit yeah I don't know the proper legal term but anyway it was like 50 bucks it wasn't like 2c but because I was under 18 I couldn't actually go and talk to the judge so my parents were had to go up and like take the stand or you know yeah yeah so my dad went up there and my dad has a thick accent when he speaks English and he doesn't really it's not that he doesn't speak English well it's just it comes out wrong yeah and so the judge couldn't understand him and so the judge like saw I guess he knew we were part of like we're together I think or if he asked I'm not sure but anyway I go up there and he goes okay going like your parents know oh you know what's going on you can speak to them in Spanish if you need to and I was like so that was just based off your look though yeah I guess I wasn't he was being racist yeah it's I don't know if it was racist or more stereotypical but like kind of that moment though made me want to be like all right I get it I guess I do look Mexican you know and I didn't have like shaped head at the time and then Ramirez saying all Mexican's have shaped heads I mean all cholos do you know I'm waiting so I'm not racist like that when that happened that made me really like think like I really wanted to break the mold and so like I mean I've done things to break the mold too I feel like yeah have you ever done things to break the mold just because you simply wanted to no I don't think so I don't really like think too much about stereotypes other than other people just like that but like stereotypes towards me like I don't come across yeah no like it doesn't offend me I think it's funny sometimes when people say like oh you're Asian you dog my huh yeah they're fucking delicious I don't care or whatever or just like oh you're Asian so you must be a nurse like sometimes that will get a little annoying if they keep like my people and they're like oh you nurse oh you nurse like no no and no okay just because I'm fucking Asian doesn't mean I'm a nurse but I don't let that like I'm not like oh now I'm gonna go prove to everyone though not a nurse you know I'm just like I'm just gonna do what I want to do yeah so I guess to that point what was the question if you ever done anything to break the mold yeah I'm just right yeah I think I've just done it just because that's just who I am just because yeah I don't have the thought in the back of my head like I'm gonna do this to break that stereotype yeah I just do it cuz I'm like do you think it's wrong for people to be like that to have that kind of attitude let's break the stereotype like yeah like for some people to be like mmm I'm gonna go do the saying to break that stereotype of my ethnicity or of whatever like parameter it is I don't think it's wrong I think it's probably maybe a good motivator it depends on what you're trying to do right you know like if someone's like oh they say Asians can't be drug dealers I'm gonna be a drug dealer just to break that mold like you can slowly roll their body and rethink your outcome like hold on you know but I mean it's not a bad thing and it's also even just a stick with the stereotype like some people will think I need to do this job because I'm Asian that's fine too if that's how you feel it and by all means and if you're good at it good job but also at the same time it's just like well don't don't be a sheepy there you know yeah so listen to us don't listen to us it's up to you by the way was there any time where someone asked you to do something because of a stereotype like someone's like oh you asked you that already did I sort of like oh you asked it yeah computer thing that was Asian yeah I guess like you're saying earlier about the whole Wall Street job yeah well I guess another one that does come to mind is like setting up the karaoke machine huh just like Filipinos love karaoke that's a stereotype that is a stereotype which is true actually yeah and so in my Japanese class like karaoke is a popular like thing in Japan like it's a thing and so you know there were couple of Filipinos in the class and just immediately my teacher was like looking at what I was like so which one of you is gonna bring the magic thing oh yeah he did that thing yeah like and of course it was magic saying cuz that's the brand that all Filipinos with the fucking song book and it was just like I mean I didn't end up bringing it but like kind of like that was like one of those like that scenario where it's just like yeah of course you're gonna ask the Filipino kids to bring the karaoke machine or like set one up so where I guess we can answer that already but I'm just gonna ask you like where do you think stereotypes come from like why um but we kind of really answered that throughout this whole podcast I think it's just based off of the very observation people just being ignorant I want to say well yeah to a certain degree and also think it comes from a cultural standpoint too yeah I believe so I think maybe sometimes a lot of these cultures make up their own stereotypes just to get out there oh really what do you mean like oh no I just feel like at least for me in my opinion we got a joke about this but you know someone would tell me like oh you're gonna math because you're Asian I'm not gonna be like wow you racist I'm gonna be like you know I'm Asian you know yeah like I feel like you should embrace the stereotype because then people know that in your culture you do a certain thing and it's like yeah oh wow you recognize that thank you yeah but obviously it's a bad thing like all your Asians are your bad driver then fuck you bro like that you might want to talk down a bit yeah it's just like actually sir but you know push up your index of glasses for all your nerds out there according to my calculations why is white dragon let's uh let's wrap it up here let me ask you I guess one final question do you feel like what was my final question we had final we had a way to wrap this up yeah so what was it um for how it was yeah uh doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo are you serious yeah I didn't what's the last thing you broke down have you ever not told anyone what you do because you don't want to get stereotyped oh answer that question yeah so have you ever told anyone or have you not told anyone like certain things you do because you don't want to feel feel stereotyped um oh like for me for example I'll give an answer sometimes when I start talking to new people I don't want to tell them right away that I like to play video games oh yeah I don't like to stare at that like oh you're one of those ages you're gonna just go no like oh you just go home and play video games all day you're probably hella lazy probably don't have no social life which is not true I do have a social life I talked to my mom I talked to my dad talking to my cousins yeah guys I'm very social no but you know I'm saying like no yeah the video games thing is probably like one of them I don't usually like open up with that I guess going along with stereotype see when people ask you like like when you meet somebody like what do you like to do for fun yeah it's always so hard to solve math problems we're only saying the Asian stereotypes guys because we are Asian okay we're allowed to yeah we're a minority so we can get away with it but yeah like when like you meet you people and they always ask you like what you like to do for fun or that sort of thing like that's always kind of something I really hesitant to answer just because it is very stereotypical like very very stereotypical that like I oh I do enjoy video games or not I guess one thing too is like I don't like telling people rather I feel like when you say Asian American a lot of what comes to mind is like specifically like California Asian American because I feel like that's very distinct example yeah no I mean give me an example I like oh like um I guess in my mind whenever like for whatever reason I always think like whenever someone asks me like if someone you play games online right like and you get to know people like oh you know you get curious or you're like you're like what's your like what's your ethnicity oh oh I'm you know Asian American and I live in California like I feel like that's so very stereotypical that so many Asians live in California I know we're all spread out throughout the United States but I feel like that's like something like that kind of you feel like whenever you meet someone new online that has never seen you for you say you're Asian and from California they're not using like oh you're that Asian yeah like the yeah I get it yeah yeah California has a specific type of Asian yeah okay could have just said that sorry I understand now I get where you're coming from but all in all I guess the way we can wrap this up is our stereotypes bad or good yes and no we're talking they're listening us look there are stereotypes and there are racial stereotypes obviously and a lot of them may seem racist or negative but I don't think they are I think they're a way to embrace cultures and I feel like if if you do get offended by it like you have every right to be offended and whatnot but at the same time just remember to yeah like it's not only that but it's just like just remember at least they know your ethnicity yeah they're not confused as to what you are and be proud okay if you're a mexican that loves spicy food loves spicy food and if you're mexican that doesn't love spicy food what is wrong with you I'm just kidding guys seriously like I just feel like stereotypes are there for a reason and if you do get offended by it it's because ignorant people are using them for ignorant ways yeah hey that's that's deep that's why that's portable tweet that read sweet speaking of which we're gonna be making a twitter account guys
