Yet many Christians courageously stood against it because they believed every person was created in the image of God.Preachers like Charles Finney and many abolitionists used Scripture to confront the evil of human bondage. While some tragically twisted religion to defend slavery, others faithfully applied Biblical truth to expose its wickedness.Proverbs 31:8 says, “Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.”Christianity has often been strongest when believers courageously stood for truth even when culture resisted.As Americans, we should honestly acknowledge both the sins and the victories of our past. And we should thank God for those who stood courageously for righteousness.
