Episode 233 - Stalag 17 *Listener's Choice*

A cynic with a cigar was never as charismatic as William Holden.  Winning an Oscar for his role as a POW who looks only after himself, Holden is the bright star at the center of 'Stalag 17'.  Billy Wilder's WWII comedy comes to us from Kristy, a returning guest here on In the Queue.  Andrew and Phil both feel the film relies too heavily on comic relief, instead of building actual tension, the potential for which there is in spades.  Early in the film, Americans gets brutally gunned down by Nazis as they attempt to escape the camp.  But it's not long until the relentless Brooklynite cut-ups Harry and Animal take over the plot for close to an hour.  But then a stool pigeon is exposed, everyone at ITQ is glued to the screen, and 'Stalag 17' ends up as a near-classic.
