Inscribed on that bell are words from Leviticus 25:10: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land…”Liberty is not merely a political idea. True liberty ultimately comes from God. While sin enslaves people, Christ delivers people.Jesus said in John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”America treasures political freedom, and we should. But even greater is the spiritual freedom found through salvation in Jesus Christ.No government can free the human soul from guilt and sin. Only Christ can do that. As we celebrate our nation’s history, may we never forget our deepest need is spiritual redemption.
