Episode 24: Huda, Microaggressions, and The Consequences of our Actions

from No Boundaries: Black Girl Magic Edition with Anousha Nzume · host Anousha Nzume

Recently, Huda and Louis were on live, taking random fans’ calls, and one fan called Olandria a racial slur on speaker phone so the live and everyone watching could hear it. The two laughed in the moment and didn’t say anything to distance themselves from the slur or its implications until after the clip went viral. And even then, there were non-apologies everywhere. Now Huda has lost two major brand deals and may never work as an influencer again. So why is this so important? Huda has been making it clear where she stands when it comes to Black people through her actions. She’ll date and over sexualize Black men (to the point of coercion!) and allow her fans to ridicule the same Black women she once called her very best friends that she’ll love forever. Now that she’s been associated with a slur, she wants to call for nuance. But the writing has been on the wall for a long time. In this week’s episode, we’re talking about Huda, microaggressions, and the consequences of our actions. In our opinion, Huda didn’t do anything to separate herself from her fans' actions or take accountability for allowing something so reckless to happen. She laughed it off and got angry when people ask why she didn’t condemn the racist act or the fan in the moment. And with the media trying to spin Olandria as another angry black woman caricature and Huda’s fans saying that it’s not fair because she didn’t say the word, we wanted to speak on why exactly this situation is so damning. Tune in to hear our thoughts on Huda's actions and what you can do to make sure you don’t end up making the same wrong choices that she did. Enjoy!
