Episode 240 - Faith During the Civil War

The Civil War brought terrible suffering to America. During this tragic time of our history, we saw families divided, entire communities devastated, and an approximate 750,000 were killed. Yet even during those painful years, many believers turned to God for strength and comfort. It was his courageous faith in Christ that Chaplain John Whitehead leaned upon to repeatedly expose himself to heavy gunfire to evacuate wounded men to safety. He would later be awarded the Medal of Honor and the nickname, “The Angel of Stones River.” Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Hardship has a way of reminding people how deeply they need the Lord. The same is true in our lives today. Sometimes God uses difficult seasons to draw hearts back to Himself.
