Episode 240: You Reflect The Company You Keep

from Detox with Abi · host Abimbola Arawande

(2 Chronicles 10) Who you move with, matters Who your children grow up with matters There is an adage in my language that says “Àgùtàn tó bá bá ajá rìn á jẹ ìgbẹ́, ajá tó bá bá ewúrẹ́ rìn á jẹ èpo iṣu” a sheep that moves with dogs will eat feace and a dog that moves with flock of sheep will eat yam peels. Meaning- We will reflect the company we keep. When king Solomon slept on, Jeroboam, Solomon’s son, had an opportunity to correct the mess his father made whilst when his heart turned against God, defiantly doing the things God commanded him not to. He turned to the old men of his country - please I need your words of advice on how to govern the people- The well-experienced, old and wise men gave Rehoboam really good advice. However, he rejected thier words of advice and “consulted with the young men who grew up with him and served him [as advisers].” ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭10:8‬ ‭AMP‬‬ Note this - he consulted with the young men who grew up with him! King Rehoboam -son of king Solomon consulted with the men who grew up with him and they gave him foolish advice. King Rehoboam spoke to the leaders who came to ask, in accordance with the advice of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.”. 2 Chronicles‬ ‭10:13-15 King Rehoboam’s foolish response led to the division of the kingdom and the Bible says in 2 Chronicles 10:19 that “Israel has rebelled against the house of David to this day.” Remember, who you move with matters; who your children grow up with matters- You will reflect the company you keep.
