Episode 245 - Woodstock '99 (pt. 1)

from METAL UP YOUR PODCAST - All Things Metallica · host Clint Wells

Woodstock '99 was a music festival held in Rome, NY from July 22-25, 1999. Covered by MTV and run on pay per view, it was the second large-scale festival that attempted to emulate the original Woodstock Festival in 1969. Over the course of four days, 400,000 attendees gathered to see artists like DMX, The Offspring, Live, Sheryl Crow, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Red Hot Chili Peppers and our beloved Metallica who headlined the East Stage on night 2. The festival was plagued with issues from the heat, lack of showers and toilets and high water prices to outright vandalism, theft and sexual assault. The film Woodstock '99: Peace, Love and Rage (2021) is a documentary looking back on the festival and attempting to explain the circumstances that led to it's ultimate failure. On this episode, Clint and Ethan talk about the documentary and Woodstock '99 in general.Other topics in this episode include:- Phoebe Bridgers and Chris Stapleton- The Blacklist- The Black Album turns 30- The Metallica Podcast- The MUYP Night Between Party- Kings of Leon- Morrissey and The Smiths- Rob and Kirk’s BGV’s- Metallica in a video gameFurther reading about sexual harassment from this UNLV study from 2018:https://www.unlv.edu/sites/default/files/page_files/27/CCJP-Heen_Stat_Sheet.pdfRSVP to the MUYP Night Between Party HERE.If you think Metal Up Your Podcast has value, please consider taking a brief moment to leave a positive review and subscribe on iTunes  here:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/metal-up-your-podcast-all-things-metallica/id1187775077You can further support the show by becoming a patron.
